You can have both. My „easy“ setup is ASN and X-Vision. To be used with HD v4 Mesh and heavy add on airports. XEnviro is deactivated at the beginning of the session thru the plugin admin menue. If I‘m in the mood for best cloud layers and seasons, I let X-Vision restore from back up and use XEnviro. That costs a couple of minutes while sipping my preflight coffee and never made problems or the sim crash. 

Yeah I have it the same way. But I do not need to restore in X-Vision, X-Enviro just works when activated. Only thing I have to deactivate is a custom fog script as it causes flickering. You should try - as X-Enviro replaces the X-Plane atmosphere, it doesn't matter if X-Vision is still "on". I might be wrong - but I haven't seen any strange behaviour.
