Blurry all of a sudden

Featured Replies

Sometimes this hobby really makes you want to lose your mind.  I had intermittent stuttering.  After trying everything I could think of I ultimately deleted the CFG file and then restored all my settings.  Now I have very smooth flight.  I run a 3840 4k setup.  Resolution in CP set to 30.  Vsync on with TB and unlimited in the sim.  Appears I'm maintaining 30 easily despite some heavy sceneries.  I'm noticing particularly in Megascenery earth areas that ground texture is blurry and very slow to load.  Any ideas?

Lock your fps at 30 in the sim. Running with an unlimited setting causes blurry scenery.

Had never done this before despite the unlimited setting.

DJJose is not wrong though.

Unlimited sets a hardcoded FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION of 0.01, which in turn reduces the time spent loading scenery resulting in blurries eventually occuring.

It's a trade off value, trading texture load for more fps.

If you switch to the P3D fps slider, FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION defaults to 0.33 resulting in more time loading scenery which equals less blurries.

Also when setting the fps via the P3D slider, any manual value set for FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION will be used, however any manual value is ignored when P3D is set to unlimited.

I used to see the blurry effect on a flight around Orbx Big Bear Airport USA (with P3D set to unlimited fps) where after circling around and coming in over the dam end the ground textures would be blurry although if I paused the sim they woud eventually catch up.

To resolve I settled on FFTF Dynamic P3dv4 which dynamically sets the FFTF value based on either a FPS config or height above ground.

I was sceptical of it at first but it turns out it does stop the blurries when running unlimited in P3D. It basicaly give you control over the FFTF value by dynamically injecting values.

Worth it IMHO although there are a few things I dislike.

  • It has a huge GUI and fiddly controls plus can only be used with a mouse.
  • It phones home each time it runs to confirm its validity.
  • Because it is tied so close to P3D's lower level workings a new version is required for each release of P3D. Not really a prob in itself but there is a wait period while the dev catches up.

My 2 cents...

Cheers
