December 27, 20196 yr Author Ok, I found myself at cpu.userbenchmark.com where I can do side by side comparisons of CPUs / APUs Very interesting to see how my various CPU's compare to many newer ones. Current System - Ryzen 7 2700X, ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming, 16GB GSkill X-Flare DDR4 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1060 GTX 6GB, Crucial MX500 SSD Instrument Rated Private Pilot with Commercial CR Sign Off in Log Book. December 27, 20196 yr Don't forget that it is single core performance that matters for FSX... so some of the benchmarks may not be applicable.. Bert

There’s a more comprehensive comparison here: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_threadripper_3970x_review,7.html For FSX, look at the IPC / Single thread chart. This test runs all CPUs at the same clock speed to check true IPC performance. You’re correct that there’s not much difference between the 1800x and the 2700x. However, if you look at the 3700x (which, in the UK at least, doesn’t cost much more), things look more interesting - particularly when you look at the other charts. The other thing to consider is that if you buy something like the 1800x, whilst you might save money now, you’ll probably want to replace it much sooner, and have to spend again, when the next generation of games (like the new flight sim) and desktop apps are released. Don’t buy for now, buy for the future. Always go for the fastest, most modern cpu you can afford for an upgrade.
