October 9, 200619 yr Hi,Since a lot of us will be building a new machine when vista & DX10 arrive I've got a question about the activation.Since FSX will already be activated on my XP machine (which I will discard when Vista arrives), will it be a problem to activate the same FSX on my Vista machine or does this mean we'll have to buy 2 copies? If so I'm definetely not activating it now & I'll just fool around in 30-minute sessions.Greetings,Jeroen
October 9, 200619 yr Moderator There will be no problem installing FSX on a new computer. The "worst case" would be that you have to call a TOLL-FREE number to have your installation (re)activated for the new hardware. Fr. October 9, 200619 yr Author Maybe I am the odd one out. I don't like this activiation thingi at all.I prefer leaving the CD to this. With the CD, it never prevented me from installing many times (which I tend to do) and also It doesn't prevent me installing in multiple machines in my home. Yes, I have 4 PCs now. All I would have to do is put the CD in the machine I want to play.I got the CD on the 4th. but I have not activated it cause I am waiting for one of the HD to arrive and I would have to reinstall XP. Its really irritating.Trying to explain to someone who probably has no clue as to how some of us do these things is not appetizing. We'll be totally at the whim of that individual over the phone. Its like going to a school principle and explaining our actions and that individual adjudicating on a whim. Its just not right.I can understand an OS. Its not like we reinstall an OS that often..but a sim? absolutely.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 9, 200619 yr What you fail to realize is that Microsoft wants you to buy 4 copies of FS - one for each computer. It is technically 'illegal' to install Flight Sim more than once on another computer. Your 'license' only gives you the 'right' to install on ONE computer. When people stop buying software with these kinds of restrictions then companies will be forced to abandon them. Until then, we will all welcome our new 'Activation' Overlords...
October 10, 200619 yr "What Bill Said!"So long as you are going to be removing FSX from your first computer when you install it to your second computer, you can activate it no problems. Chances are you will be able to activate via the internet with no problems, but if that rejects you, you can just call a toll-free number and activate it that way.I reinstalled my XP installation a few times and had to call in my activation because I had "used up" all my Internet activations. They simply ask if the software is installed on multiple computers, you answer NO! (because that's the truth!) and they provide the activation. No muss, no fuss... good stuff!-Greg
October 10, 200619 yr So does that telephoned activation code work for all re-installations? Dave Taylor
