DCS non-steam + VR

Featured Replies

Greetings in the new year!

I'm planning to go with one of the two versions of DCS and I'd go with the non-steam (standalone) version as I'm not a big steam fan for reasons pertaining bloatware and privacy issues. Anyway, I know that dlc's are not inter-compatible so I have to carefully choose one path.

I'd like to know if the standalone version supports VR. Does anyone know if there are any differences in performance VR-wise? Maybe steam VR has some optimizations under the hood or anything like that.

I've ordered an Oculus Quest and will arrive next week. Until then I'd like to take advantage of the discounts (before Jan 5th) and purchase some stuff *rubs hands*.

VR works fine in DCS non Steam.

Yeah, standalone natively supports Oculus

Thank you Phantom, this is my first contact with DCS, I watched a few videos on YouTube and I find it amazingly... professional. I like the pricing - free world and buy the planes/jets you like, like you would in real life - I'd like other games/sims out there apply this. On the other hand, I find the complexity intimidating and suitable for real pilots, or for those dedicating a large part of their lives to flying, having a full scale cockpit in their room. I hope I'll be able to play it using the VR and by following YouTube tutorials.

Any idea where to start from?
