Affinity Mask on dual core

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some input on affinity mask for a dual core.

Can i do anything with Affinitymask on my laptop?

Processor Core i5-7200U (2C, 2.5 / 3.1GHz, 3MB)
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB
Memory 8GBx1
Display 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS

Thank You

I had a similar laptop (only less resolution and 6 GB RAM). I didn't use any affinity mask for it; it was not worth. If you insist, try with 5 or 13.

Best regards,

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

He needs all the cores he can get. 5 and 13 will each disable core 1, and are the same as an AM of 1. Neither are a good idea.

Cheers!

Assuming you really mean "can I do anything useful", the answer is maybe.  Seeing that your processor supports HyperThreads (HT), using 5 may helpful for P3D/FSX (yet another assumption) as only virtual cores 0 and 2 will be used by the sim.  Using no AM may be just as effective performance-wise; it's best that you experiment to see what works best for you.  BTW, 13 is overkill for a dual core processor since its specifies a non-existent virtual core 4; also, this isn't the best forum for your question.

Hi, another forum mentioned to use either 2 or 3 as the AM settings.  I’m using 2 right now and it seems smoother.  Going to try the other recommendations to see if there is any other difference.

thanks for the help!

Actually, I was disabling HT in both cores for 5, and HT in core 0 for 13. Please remember it's a dual core with HT. Anyway, I had better results using no AM at all.

My bad about 13 being overkill for HT dual core: it's value is 1 1 0 1, which selects virtual cores 0, 2, and 3 for use.  Can't figure how misled myself in my original statement, for it's a rather brain dead response since 15 is the max value in this case.
