January 27, 20206 yr Commercial Member Hey everyone! Not sure if this is the proper forum category to post it. Sorry if it's not. During the past couple of weeks I've been working on a simple VOR and ADF "simulator", that I'm now releasing to the public for free. I initially started this project as something for myself (both for actually practicing how to properly navigate using those instruments and to learn a new javascript rendering library), but then I thought it my be useful for other aviation enthusiasts as well, so I made it "prettier" and released to the public. Here's a screenshot of it's main screen: I'm aware that are other similar tools, but some are payware and other are too "feature filled". I wanted something simpler, focusing only on VOR and ADF. It's also worth noting that this shouldn't be consider a proper simulator for real flight training, as it doesn't simulate some characteristics such as radio ranges, cone of confusion, and so on. The wind is also very basically implemented. It's more of a tool to get a hang of how the instruments work. I tried to make it as simple as possible to use, but UI is not my strongest skill. Also, please report any bug or inconsistency you may find. I've added a "Help" button that has a basic usage guide. The basic controls are: Up/Down - Throttle control Left/Right - Turn plane Space - Stop plane movement Home - Stop plane turn R - Reset plane Mouse wheel - Rotate HDG/OBS knob ±1 degree Shift + Mouse wheel - Rotate HDG/OBS knob ±5 degrees Left click (hold) - Move NAVAID or plane Left click (click) - Set the clicked frequency as standby You can check it out using the link below: https://www.fergonez.net/projects/ifrsimulator/ Hope you like it! January 27, 20206 yr NICE! Interface works well enough - I like the option of clicking on the transmitter in the list and then have the frequency input into the standby window, or just typing it in manually. The graphics are clear: Lovely smooth instruments! I've only tried a quick mission so far as I wanted to type a quick reply to get the ball rolling - successfully navigated over 3 VORs (green bars) but only got down to 0.5 miles of the NDB (last waypoint on that mission). Must brush up on my keyboard flying skills! EDIT - the NDB wouldn't have DME would it?? I have my own "cone of confusion!" LOL. Thank you. January 27, 20206 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks for trying it out! I did pay a special attention on getting the instruments to look good. Regarding your last question, to be honest, I don't actually know. I mean, it is technically possible, as the DME is a separate instrument on its own, but I don't recall ever seeing a DME combined with a NDB, only with a VOR. If someone is aware of the existence of a NDB-DME, I'll be glad to know (and implement on the sim). 😀 KR, Fergo Edited January 27, 20206 yr by Fergo
January 28, 20206 yr Just for clarification, there are a lot of NDB/DME approaches. The DME doesn't need to be co-located with the NDB. Depending on the approach, it can be the DME from a VOR anywhere in the vicinity of the airport.
February 1, 20206 yr I had another go and the NDB worked fine - no distance readout. I reckon I confused myself with having to manually align the fixed ADF compass rather than having it operate like the main compass. April 1, 20206 yr Fargo, this is absolutely great! I just started a series of articles and videos on flightsim navigation and this tool could be great to use. I'll give it a try to see how it looks on video. So far I used Luiz Monteiro's navigation sim. Always have fun --0-- Flight Sim Navigation
April 2, 20206 yr I meant Fergo of course, autocorrect kicked in. Always have fun --0-- Flight Sim Navigation

I've used Monteiro's tools for a while, but as Flash was deprecated and I felt the need to add some things to the simulation, I decided to code my own.
