Anyone using Samscene Tokyo City v2?

Featured Replies

Well, the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo is now six months out...time to get ready to do some virtual flying there.

I have the Technobrain RJTT (Tokyo Haneda Intl) scenery, which is OK...maybe a 6 out of 10 when buffed up with SODE jetways via GSX2.  I'm able to hold 30 fps using that in the notoriously heavy-hitting Tokyo area.

So now I'm wondering if adding the Samscene city scenery will push it past the brink and clobber my frame rates going in/out of Tokyo.  Has anyone here already tried the combo?

Thanks

I have the scenery combination in question. I'll run some tests and get back to you.

Lucky you being able to maintain 30 FPS!

Locked at 30 FPS with RTSS, running FFTF dynamic, limiting AI to 70 aircraft, no weather and these sim settings (apart from now 8x MSAA and no longer locking TFR using the P3D slider):

1a) Using both Samscene Tokyo and Technobrain RJTT, the QW787, sitting on rwy 34L (facing the city), I get 21 FPS.
On approach to rwy 34R, I get 16 - 20 FPS, usually around the 17 mark.

1b) Using both Samscene Tokyo and Technobrain RJTT, the 737NGX, sitting on rwy 34L, I get 23 FPS.
On approach to rwy 34R, I get 18 - 21 FPS, usually around the 19 mark.

2a) Using just Technobrain RJTT (and its own city scenery), the QW787, sitting on rwy 34L, I get 23 FPS.
On approach to rwy 34R, I get 18 - 22 FPS, usually around the 20 mark.

2b) Using just Technobrain RJTT (and its own city scenery), the 737NGX, sitting on rwy 34L, I get 24 FPS.
On approach to rwy 34R, I get 18 - 23 FPS, usually around the 21 mark.

3) Turning off the Technobrain 'landmarks' yielded no performance improvement.

4) With the default RJTT scenery and Samscene Tokyo, the 737NGX, sitting on rwy 34L, I get 30 FPS.
On approach to rwy 34R, I get 27 - 30 FPS, usually around the 28 mark.

Therefore, some performance loss with Samscene Tokyo, but not very much. The bigger FPS eater by far is Technobrain's RJTT.

I'd be intrigued to know what performance @Evros gets, with what settings and aeroplanes used.

I wan't comment in detail on fps, but the combo runs more or less "satisfactorily" w.r.t performance on my machine with proper settings. Though I agree to  F737NG that RJTT, while I find it visually better than some people claim, is quite hard on fps.

However I would like to note another aspect.

I use Technobrain RJTT plus Samscene Tokyo 2 together with the famous Haruo Landclass (and ORBX Global) for all of Japan. I observe unsightly transitions between RJTT and SamScene as well as between SamScene and the surrounding Haruo Landclass. The first include missing patches of autogen close to the harbour area. The latter refer to the color mismatch between SamScene photo background and the Haruo/ORBX landclass as well as the much differing style of autogen. Thus, flying out of Tokyo Metropolitan to, say, Narita, you are cossing a pretty ugly transition area which destroys immersion.

I gave up on optimizing the area in the hope that the announced Drzewiecki Design Tokyo will harmonize the region, should it ever appear.

Kind regards, Michael

Thanks guys.

@Michael--your comments on the transitions and the missing autogen convinced me to hold off on the city scenery.  From your report it would seem that it takes away as much as it adds.  I agree on the appearance of the airport...it's not a cutting-edge work of art, but the textures are sharp enough and it gets the job done.

@F737NG--thanks for the detailed report.  FWIW, with the QW787 on 34L, I am holding 30fps locked with core 0 at around 80%.  Traffic is utLive at 40%, 4K res with 4xSSAA, VSync+TB to a 30Hz monitor with frame rate unlimited.  I did make a few changes based on some things I read elsewhere and some experimentation:

First, I am using the iniBuilds GSX2 config, which entailed removing the IK jetways and replacing them with GSX (SODE) jetways.  The GSX implementation of SODE jetways makes them static except at the gate you've designated for your use...the IK jetway animations are active all across the airfield for AI, which can clobber performance at large airports with a lot of them.

I also disabled the following files in the FSAC_RJTT2_X/scenery folder:  rjtt2_liv_gs_cars.bgl,  facility_rader.bgl,  facility_south_rader.bgl    The first one makes a pretty big difference.
