Orbx "Regions"....are they worth it?

Featured Replies

  • FTX Northern Ireland was because I had no other choice at the time. Since then, I have replaced it with photoscenery.
  • FTX Republic of Ireland was because I had forgotten about the PlayHorizon VFR Photographic Scenery Volume 9 and 10 Republic of Ireland packages. Long since corrected.
  • FTX Scotland was for no other reason than to obtain a handful of files that allowed full compatibility of ORBx EGPB Sumburgh with PlayHorizon VFR Photographic Scenery Volume 5 Orkneys & Shetland Isles. I never actually used the entire package for Scotland scenery.

Let's face it, anything is better than default scenery.

Personally I would not fly without them, it all really depends on what aircraft you fly.

I mainly fly around the Uk so England, Wales and Scotland are a must have for me. For Europe i use open LC europe and that does the job. Having said that I have just purchased Norway and am in 2 minds about buying Germany North and South  ( i use the other simulator 😁)

If you want to fly helicopter from time to time, then landclass sceneries are rather useless.

I've never seen an heliport or football field / sportsfield you need for VIP transports and medical care.
Can't remember that I've seen any parking places either in landclass sceneries.

Always safe landings 😉

Thanks a lot for the input guys. At the moment I am flying with a newer rig, less than a year old. Even though I built it for high performance, I am still skeptical on these heavy FPS areas.....particularly flying an approach into KLAX at sunset with cloud layers 🙂

Here are my current specs:

i7 8700k

Samsung Evo 970 250GB

Asus ROG 2080ti

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 3200

Corsair Hydro Series H115i RGB

I pretty much have the same system.  I also have Orbx SoCal, NoCal, & PNW.  SoCal is the worst, but I landed at LAX 2 days ago at sunset with the PMDG 747-4...FPS was about 20.  Took off from SFO yesterday, and FPS was about 35. SEA is similar to SFO from what I remember, but it's been a while since I've been there.  If you fly jetliners the approaches and takeoffs are when you notice it the most.  I honestly don't know if I'm looking at Orbx Base or regional scenery when I'm at altitude haha.  I'd say if you fly GA aircraft you'd probably enjoy it the most, but I do enjoy it for my approaches and departures from the airports I mentioned.
