October 16, 200619 yr With the default eyepoint position in the 2D cockpit (B737), it's impossible to see the horizon or ground above the instrument panel. This spoils the 'cruise' part of the flight and makes landing manually virtually impossible, especially in a 'nose-up' configuration.I've tried raising and lowering the eyepoint but found the limits aren't sufficient. What I'm trying to achieve is the effect of 'raising the seat' to get better views out of the front glareshield.Has anyone else noticed this and found a solution?(In FS9. raising & lowering the eyepoint position was much more dramatic and effective......)Thanks for any help.Toni.
October 16, 200619 yr Hi Toni,I don't have the retail yet, and I rarely fly the big iron but you change the 2D viewpoint in all aircraft the same: in the panel config modify (or add in this case, since it's not there to begin with) the line -Window04=CompassWindow05=Mini Panel//----------------------add this entry ----------[VIEWS]VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=0.5, 0.0, 0.0 // adjust the first value (more=higher horizon)//-----------------------------------------------[Window00]etc.You'll have to do this in any panel.cfg that you want to modify.FYI, the second parameter is bank; the third is yaw or heading. These are best left at 0.Presumably you know that the viewpoint parameters in the aircraft.cfg control the VC position and the third parameter is the elevation (XYZ)Hope this helpsLoyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
October 17, 200619 yr I can't even find the keys to adjust the view in the 2d pit, with FS9 it used to be perfect for landing, the adjustments were quite extreme.Consequently, i've been using the virtual pit and its somewhat improved my fps!JoeKing
October 17, 200619 yr According to Tushar, a MS support specialist, there is no way to adjust the eyepoint in the 2D cockpit except by holding down the space bar and using the mouse to move the eyepoint. I'm not sure what result you will have doing this. I was so disgusted at not being able to do it the conventional way, I gave up on it. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.I ran into this same thing the very hour I installed the program on the 4th and immediately sent a request to MS. That was their answer. They're pushing you to use the 3D cockpits. Thank you. October 18, 200619 yr I can't get it to work at all. and do absolutely nothing in the 2D cockpit. Same with ... nothing. These only work for me in the 3D cockpit.I can't figure out how to move the eyepoint at all in the 2D cockpit.Jason Jason Springer (p3dv5.2, MSFS 2020)
October 18, 200619 yr Hi again Toni and fellow responders,I have an update for you... IF you will accept some compromise.with notes also toLiftow: I can't even find the keys to adjust the view in the 2d pit,--- now you can188AHC: there is no way to adjust the eyepoint in the 2D cockpit --- wanna bet?jspringe: and do absolutely nothing in the 2D cockpit --- wanna bet more? You can pan in the 2D cockpit by editing the cockpit Camera definition or you can utilize another view.in the Cameras.cfg...Make the view "pan-able"[CameraDefinition.001]Title = CockpitGuid = {B1386D92-4782-4682-A137-738E25D1BAB5}Description = This is the description of the cockpit viewOrigin = CockpitShowPanel = Yes // default is no (?)SnapPbhAdjust = OrdinalSnapPbhReturn = TruePanPbhAdjust = Swivel // enable panning /default is Ordinal **< < < < PanPbhReturn = False // disable snap return /default is True **< < < and do exactly what they were designed to do I'd guess, just not what WE expected. If you sit on the ground in the Baron or other smallish AC and HOLD the buttons, you will see your elevation changes - it's just that the 2D panel IS MOVING WITH YOU. In FS9 those keys TILTED the viewpoint defined in the panel.cfg that I mentioned in my previous response.Liftow: now you know where the keys are too. They just won't do any of us much good.Hope this takes care of "most" of the issue; perhaps an SDK camera guru will emerge and design us a NEW camera for the 2D that works like the 'old' one did. October 18, 200619 yr Theres a little book inside the FSX box..insiders guide or something like that.No matter how log you have spent tweaking FS, and how many versions you have sat and loved, a read of this will still teach you something new.CTRL+Q and the seat goes up.CTRL+SHIFT+Q and the seat goes down.Hope this helps :)
October 19, 200619 yr Thanks Fred,I love a simple answer! I must have known that at one point; but it isn't something I use very often. I'm still using demo for testing and tweaking experiments.Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
