FSX window inaccessible upon switching applications

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone else is encountering this problem. I'm running FSX along with FSAutoStart and Track IR. If I have a need to switch applications using Alt-Tab I'm unable to bring the FSX window back up. It shows as running in the task bar and is not listed as "Not responding" in the Task Manager. Yet I can't get it to populate the screen. I have to use Task Manager to quit FSX and relaunch it. Robert

Robert,I've expereinced this as well, and here are some suggestions on how to get FSX back. First, when I go to the Task Manager I can normally select FSX in the Applications tab and click the "Switch To..." button and it comes back up. When that doesn't work I go back to the desktop and Alt-Tab to the FSX icon then hit the ESC key. The FSX dialog asking if I want to continue the flight, end the flight or end FSX comes up. I then select continue the flight and FSX pops back up.Not too elegent and it does seem to be a repeatable problem. I've already send many comments to [email protected] and will send one on this as well.DougDell XPS Gen3 (3.6GHz/540FSB) | 2GB DDR SDRAM | 74GB SATA, 10k RPM (C: ) | 120GB SATA (D: ) | 512MB ATI Radeon X1900XTX (Catalyst 6.9) | Audigy 2 ZS Sound | MS Force Feedback 2 | WindowsXP Pro (SP2) | DirectX 9.0c

another trick: when the full screen window gets stuck as you describe, press alt-enter twice (alt-enter once will show the regular windowed mode)

If I Alt-Tab out of FSX, I have to use Alt-Tab to bring it back to the foreground again. Clicking on it on the task bar and/or using the Task Manager to 'Switch To' FSX again don't work, Alt-Tab does.

Thanks... another good tip. I'll include that in my email to tell_fs.DougDell XPS Gen3 (3.6GHz/540FSB) | 2GB DDR SDRAM | 74GB SATA, 10k RPM (C: ) | 120GB SATA (D: ) | 512MB ATI Radeon X1900XTX (Catalyst 6.9) | Audigy 2 ZS Sound | MS Force Feedback 2 | WindowsXP Pro (SP2) | DirectX 9.0c

Thanks for all the great tips. I really appreciate it. What I don't understand is why it took you all so long to respond. I think it was about 10 minutes and I had 5 responses. You guys are great. Thanks again.Robert

Read the notes file that comes up at the end of the install. It states that this is a known problem. FSX may take a long time to come back up, or may not return at all.I too have had this problem.

Thank you.

I've found that some of the suggestions worked some of the time and others didn't work for me at all. Here's what I've found to work best for me.Before switching apps, I go from full screen view in FSX to a Settings dialog. I then switch apps. Alt-Enter will sometimes get me back to the Settings dialog. If it doesn't, I open Task Manager and use it to switch back to FSX. That usually works. If it doesn't, I force quit FSX and relaunch.

Yep.. Happens all the time.I've been calling it the "task switching bug".Thanks to the others with suggestions, I'll try them if I ever load up FSX again.

YEs, I get this problem with demo V2. I click on FSX in the taskbar, and nothing happens. I then press ESC and after a few seconds the Quit Dialog box appears ... you can resume from there :).This is an unbelievable bug ...

If I want to task switch I find the the best way is to ALT-Enter to go to windowed mode. Use whatever other task I need, then ALT-Enter to return to full screen. I also make windowed mode maximise.

Is anyone suffering from a variant of this bug...I'm running FSX on two monitors -- one with the main screen, one with radios and ATC. Regularly FSX minimizes without warning and I get the problems discussed above. Happened in the demo and the Deluxe. Happens without me doing anything.Suggestions gratefully received.Dell Dimension 9200 Core 2 Duo e6700, 7900GS, 2gb ram, Raid 0.
