pmdg???? what is it??

Featured Replies

I have seen a lot of people talking about the add-on pmdg. Is it a plane?? I am obviously very new to FS and aviation in general so sorry for the "stupid" question.

Speaking of this question (which isn't dumb BTW)....I keep reading apprehensive suggestions to the effect that FSX doesn't have enough overhead to support the PMDG 747. But these seem to be speculative in nature.Since apparently several here already have FSX now and this PMDG dealybob is so popular, has anyone actually tried it in FSX yet, or no?

I don't want to start a flame war.but IMO. Yes..its just my opinion. PMDG 747 is the best and the most comprehensive airline addon for MS FS9.I had always been a GA simmer, But that doesn't mean I didn't buy the airline aircrafts. Occasionally I hand flew a few including the PMDG 747 and I put it all back in the hanger... Airlineers were too much learning to do with their real life like System an all.But then one day, I wanted to fly the 747 just like I would a GA airplane. You know dial in the VOR/ILS frequency and just follow it. Didn't want to learn any stinkin system. :) But I ended up learning the systems ..one at a time, cause at the PMDG thread here at AVSIM, one of them (Sheesh, I forget his name) helped me out slowly when I started. Whenevern I had trouble I posted there and he replied back with an answer.. and I slowly lifted off.. (There are also plenty of tutorials out there now) and WOW.... What an awesome airplane it is. If there was 1 single payware addon that I cannot live without (as of this moment), it would be the PMDG 747. Bar none.:)Manny

The PMDG B747 is very cool (notwithstanding some install issues it has regarding activating it) and it's to be hoped that it can be made to work in FSX. But at the moment it can't be put in FSX because the install actively looks for the sim you install it into and rewrites a major part of the config files, as it has a complicated set up in order to make it behave like the real thing (which by all accounts it does, not that I've ever been in the left seat of a B-747). This means you can't install it in FS9 and drag and drop it into FSX, as you could with aircraft in a couple of earlier versions of FS.When (and if) they get it working in FSX, I recommend you treat yourself to a copy of it, as it really does make the default aircraft look like a poor attempt in comparison, and I think the default aircraft are pretty good on the whole, which should give you some idea of the quality of the PMDG B-747.Oh and welcome to the world of FS, your life will never be the same and your wife/girlfriend will not be happy :-)

I was actually kind of surprised to see that MS are still making their own planes for FS, instead of licensing the really good quality add-ons from PMDG and Level-D. I don't think I've bothered flying a default plane in FS since FS2002.

Depends on what you fly and how much you are willing to spend. Some of the new FSX defaults are getting good reviews such as the Maule and the Baron. Ian.
