P3D v4.5 HF3 - Poor Performance

as for whether to update to 4.5hf3... I haven’t. My sim is running very smoothly generally, so the last thing I want to do is mess it up. I’ll stay with 4.5 the way it is, perhaps installing an airport now and then, but that’s it. No major changes until I move to v5.

Same here. I think that's the best advice.

I have read and have appreciated all the feedback from everyone - thank you.

Before I roll back to HF2, I will try one thing that I had not done and has come across loud and clear from many of you - I will delete the CFG file and see what happens.

Will let everyone know later today my results.

Well - I deleted the CFG, ran P3D and obviously because it loads into the basic default mode the FPS was good.  But I would never fly my aircraft in that default mode, so I put back in my exact setup as I had before and have had for probably a year now.

The results were back to the 10 -12 FPS drop - compared to when I was running HF2 and HF1.

I have gone to the LM site to try to download HF2, but the files do not seem to be there at all.

Surely to goodness LM would not stop a cllient from re-downloading an older version.  Does anyone know how to get this older HF2 files?

My error that I made was I did not backup the HF2 files when I downloaded them or I could have just brought them back from my backup.

Hi Dane,

Cannot help with the HF2 files, I guess LM regard them as different to point releases. Perhaps email LM support? Or maybe someone else can assist?

But anyway I'm not seeing any great fps drop with HF3, in fact all seems to be much of a muchness and I have quite a bit of tuning in the prepar3d.cfg (as well as other config files).

10~12 fps would be huge and easily noticable.

Perhaps there is a particular config setting giving grief?

How about posting your prepar3D.cfg (as a spoiler)?

Maybe a set of different eys can help.

Cheers

Addendum:

Comparing a benchmark vid running HF2 compared to HF3 (same benchmark senario) there is a slight drop in fps with HF3. In my case it is about 3 to 5 fps.

So yeah, best advice is if HF2 gives no issues then stick with HF2.

On Second Thoughts (and further testing):

Deleted the shaders, and retested and this time around there was practically no difference between the fps of HF2 and HF3 using same settings and scenario. If there is a difference it appears to be negligable and can be both higher or lower of minor amounts.

The additional testing for myself means I'm going to stick with HF3 for the time being (until v5 is updated at bit).

Cheers

Thanks Rogen for your reply and input.  I would attach my Prepar3d.cfg file but I am not able to attach a file other than an image file so I can't do that and the cfg is too big to put into a post so I will just keep on doing whatever I have to do - thanks for your help.

I did actually post a request on the LM site so I will see if I get an answer.
