Thinking about a new build.....Question

Featured Replies

So I'm going to throw this back out for another discussion. My current system has an Intel 6700k OC'd to 4.7.Asus z170-P MOBO, 6GB 3200 DDR4 Crucial RAM, 750 WT PSU and a EVGA GTX 1080FTW2 GPU.

I have been looking at building a new system to facilitate P3dV5 and MSFS 2020. My thoughts were to buy a I7 9700k CPU and OC it to 4.7/4.9 and an Asus Z390 MOBO and bring my PSU/RAM/SSDs and GPU over to the new system.

Would I be better to UPGRADE to an EVGA GTX1080ti and sell my current GPU or go for a new CPU and MOBO. I am reading the 2080 GPU are really not worth the extra cost. What would you do?

Intel I7 6700 4.0 CPU Western Digital Caviar 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive  16GB DDR4 Crucial RAM. Corsair 750 Watt PSU.

EVGA NVIDIA GTX1080 FTW GPU

Just wait.  New CPU and GPU coming soon.  You have a really good system already.  Actually your RAM is really low... consider 16GB unless that was a typo?

The 10 series CPU's are going to be announced tomorrow, from the leak it looks like you will get a 9900k equivalent for a 9700k price with the 10700k. Should be available after may 20th. Then of course there is rocket lake slated for release at the end of the year which will be a departure from the 5 year old skylake architecture, I wonder if the new z490 chipset will support it.

Ya, Typo. I have 16GB. I hope whatever is in this first P3dv5 Hotfix will also improve performance as well.
