The links that you found are probably old. They may have been valid at one time, but today, May 3, 2020, the web server at www.fsx-downloads has no content at all. Not even a main index page. As I mentioned, it is very possible that the company that now owns that web server has nothing to do with the company that used to provide FSX airplanes for download. Unless the former operator happens to be a member here at Avsim (and there is no way of knowing that), it may be impossible to find out what happened to the old web site and its contents. May 4, 20206 yr Author Well, I want the sites to be kept running as long as the administrator lives. But did you also know that sites like that also actually expire?
May 4, 20206 yr Web sites are not free for the operator. The owner has to pay a hosting company to maintain the web server. If someone goes out of business and stops paying for the web site, it will be taken off line. It would be no different than if somebody stopped paying their electric bill. Eventually the power company is going to come around and shut the electricity off. Also, all web sites have to be registered, just like automobiles. Registrations are good for between 1 year and 10 years. A 10 year registration costs a lot more than a 1 year. Registrations will are not free either. Again, if somebody goes out of business and doesn’t pay to renew the registration and it expires, the web domain will disappear from the internet. That’s just way life works. May 4, 20206 yr Author Does it mean anyone can just remove the site before the site expires without paying money somehow?

But did you also know that sites like that also actually expire? That's nice. Unfortunately that's not how the world works. Sites take time and money to maintain. People don't always want to do that. Domains are only registered temporarily and eventually expire. Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

If I run a site I can take it down almost instantly without any financial cost to me. Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.
May 4, 20206 yr Commercial Member I think we've already covered them in this thread. Why do you ask the same questions over and over again? Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.
May 4, 20206 yr Author Oh also, do you know why administrators don't always tell what would happen to their websites?
