October 18, 200619 yr Carl,I tried most of the fixes excluding the files. I prefer not to mess with that just yet unless I get desperate. I tend to lose track of things :-)As for the RAM when I compared it in task manager both before and after there is certainly more breathing room for FSX with 2GB. It probably affects loading times etc which maybe too fast for me to notice. If that is so then great. But as far as making it smoother etc..I did not see any difference. And thats as much as I am going to spend hardware wise with FSX or pre VISTA. If I go that route it will be a new system 1-2 years from now. And as for payware that will be a definite no for FSX. That will only bog it down further. I hope you have better luckBill
October 18, 200619 yr Thanks Bill,I figured the additional ram would only (I hope) allow faster texture loading and hardly any improvement if any to FPS. I also do not plan spending any additional funds except for the ram. I did buy the recent PDX scenery for FS9 with free upgrade to FSX. It is some great scenery with no hit on FPS in FS9. Will be anxious to see what it will do when I add it to FSX. If no FPS hit I may purchase some additonal FSX payware scenery in the future. As far as a PMDG, no way will it work with my system on FSX. By the way did you try locking your fps or using unlimited? I am still experimenting with that one but I think unlike FS9 the unlimited is providing smoother flight. October 18, 200619 yr Carl,Default FPS setting after install was set at 20FPS...I manage to get the 20 the further away from the airport and the higher I go. It would stay pretty close to that even with real weather. But as soon as I start down and near airports , back to single digit and the stutters.I have also tried the unlimited but it did not help any so I moved it back.Bill
October 18, 200619 yr Try the demo. If it runs like drying concrete then buy FS9. You will have to turn the sliders down somewhat ..... Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
October 18, 200619 yr Ok, I found the demo tried it out and I will stay with FS9. The frames were bad!!! I like to fly the airliners with all systems in to the major cities. It was to jerky for me I like 18FPS and above.

But before deciding it won't work for you, did you try some of the settings recommended by folks? Or any of the tweaks? (I do understand some can be intimidating.)In addition to the links mentioned above there is some tweak advice on my blog at http://jonpatch.wordpress.com .
