October 19, 200619 yr HiI have seen that that FSX.cfg grows very big in the 'Trusted' section.Wil it continue growing all the time.I have been trying to install several FS2004 planes into FSX. Get a lot of FS98 gauge errors, every single gauge is added to the 'Trusted' section. The only succesfull FS2004 plane I have inported to FSX is RealAirs SF260.Yesterday I deleted nearly all lines in that section, whitout anything to happen.RegardsHenerik KorningBGGH
October 19, 200619 yr Nice spot! I will have to check out my cfg file too.I think that is kind of dumb on MS's part.I was loading an aircraft that had at least a hundred gauges and I had to press RUN and then Accept, both, a hundred times.Gee do MS programmers ever think things out?Geez put a freak'n RUN ALL button there. :+
October 19, 200619 yr Hi McCrashYeah - its irritating to press the key hundred times to end up with a panel whit no gauges anyway. A 'Yes to all' an 'No to all' key would have been nice.Henrik
October 19, 200619 yr If you read back a few pages it is because of the way "some" developers (third party) made their gauges. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchThat is why some guages need to be approved whil others do not. I have absolutely no problem with a warning coming up from FSX telling me "hey... there might be an issue with..."Seriously... what is the big deal with MS coding in something that alerts us to potential problems?duttonhttp://dutton.fsblogger.com/
October 19, 200619 yr Author A few notes...This was not something that the folks at ACES dreamt up. This is Microsoft corporate policy. Loading .dll files from unknown sources does represent a legitimate security concern - for instance, I can write a gauge file that will delete all the .doc files it can find. So, while you are flying from London to Paris, your wife's Master's thesis is quietly going up in smoke... Fortunately, this kind of thing hasn't happened yet.The FSX.CFG file is certainly not a good location for the trusted app references. If you want to delete said file to cure other issues you are having with FSX, you will want to back up the existing file so that you can put the trusted gauge references back in. Otherwise you will have to go through the exercise of telling FS that you want to trust each of those gauges again when they are next loaded.Suggestion to MS for future editions: The registry would be a much better place for this kind of thing.Doug Dawson
October 19, 200619 yr To add to this:As far as I know (but correct me if I'm wrong), even if a gauge can run in FSX (so if it's not a "FS98" gauge) AND if it IS signed by the developper, you STILL have to "run" and "trust" it the first time.*removed because it's not true :-) *Corrected to: you only have to "trust" a signed gauge once; after that, all other .dlls from that publisher are automatically trusted too.(Thanks, Doug :-) )And I agree with Doug, that the place these "trusts" are stored (in the fsx.cfg file) is a bit rediculous place. If only because if you have multiple .cfg files (like me) you have to undergo this "trusting" for every .cfg file when you use it the first time, unless you manually copy them for every new .dll.What MS could have done (even simpler than the registry): store it in a seperate file, and have a link to this file in the fsx.cfg file.Like like they did with Control_Current= ..Which means that you can always change to another .cfg file (for whatever reason) without "trusting" all .dlls again.Heck, it wouyld even allow different sets of "trusts" for each .cfg file; although, I must admit, I can't think of any reason for that.(except maybe: loading performamce if you have 100+ trusts ?? )Just MHO :-)Rob Barendregt
October 19, 200619 yr how about if you remove all the lines and simply addC:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XGAUGESwould that not allow every single gauge in the GAUGES folder ?
October 19, 200619 yr Author >how about if you remove all the lines and simply add>C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator>XGAUGES>>would that not allow every single gauge in the GAUGES folder>?No it would not. Each gauge is evaluated individually.Doug
