October 20, 200619 yr Obviously some are unhappy with certain aspects of FSX, indeed I am one of them. One of the things I am particularly unhappy with is the Landclass in some parts of the world. I have a choice, I could moan about it, fly FS2004, etc. I admit I had already entered "moan mode" but realised that would do nothing other than increase my number of posts. So, instead of moaning I have spent a lot of hours figuring out how to change the Landclass and I have now made a start on British Columbia. I don't expect it to the best Landclass set I have ever seen but it will mean I can at least fly without passing a spot or two of Desert. My objective is purely to kill a few spots of Desert etc and not to completely change the lanscape. Yes, it will take hours of work and I know I can look for older Landclass that is around but I have reasons for wanting to do it myself. Maybe I will even keep going and do other places I like to fly .. who knows. My point is this. FSX is far from perfect. I can wait for someone else to do what I want/need or start doing it myself. Maybe if there is something you do not like etc you too could read the SDK, Forums and Websites and have a go at fixing some things yourselves. If there is a texture you think is wrong do some reading then see if you can change it. I'm not saying we can all become creators of mega-scenery but if we sit around waiting for someone else to "fix-it" we will have a very long wait and waste a lot of time moaning.Have a go. Nothing tried nothing gained.Andrew
October 20, 200619 yr Still waiting for my copy to arrive, but I'm sure Ezy-Landclass may work so yeah why not dive in and change it. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
October 20, 200619 yr Absolutely, Andrew.Complaining only leads to annoyance, anger, frustration, and ulcers.Doing something brings a great feeling of accomplishment, the satisfaction of having solved a problem, and the gratefulness of fellow enthusiasts, if you decide to share your work.Good luck on your project.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
October 20, 200619 yr Well, uh yah, but.. there's a line that needs to be drawn in the virtual sand.Just my opinion of course, but a bad looking texture on an autogen building or airport mesh on a few airports is bad, that's not a big deal. However, when ALL of the autogen buildings "glow" at night and do not even appear to have been fixed with using a night texture, it just plain looks "cheezy" and unfinished. I have no idea how to fix something like that, and unless I switch autogen off, they stick out like a huge eyesore. It doesn't stop the game from working, but it surely messes with my mind when flying at night! MAYBE I just have bad drivers or something so maybe someone can confirm this?In hopes someone can make a fix for the "glowing night autogen",
October 21, 200619 yr Emm, does that mean that if one purchases the latest car from Ford and find that it is only firing on 3 cylanders, that the purchaser should get out the Haynes manual and fix it himself?I think the fact that UK2000 and Simflyers are stepping back from this product speaks volumes.BC
October 21, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi Andrew, great initiative! We've been dealt our cards and it's up to us what we do with them. Everyone who has concerns about specific aspects of FSX should definitely voice these here and - more importantly - directly with ACES/MS. But once you're done with that you still have a new sim sitting on your HD, so it's either delete, wait for patch (?), wait for enhancements, or making your own.As regards to land class I'd start by installing those that were made for FS9. If they improved on the FS9 land class they should do the same in FSX. Also, I'd suggest sending emails or PMs to the original authors, telling them what works and what doesn't, and thus encouraging them to update and optimize their FS9 files for FSX ;-)I'll definitely update my freeware land class/landscape enhancements of B.C. and other areas but I'm starting out by learning about the changes in FSX first. Specifically, making a visual catalog of the individual classes and figuring out their interaction with the terrain (e.g., auto-switching to other classes on steeper slopes) and different seasons/regions. Once this ground work is done the re-classification of the FS9 land class files should be straightforward.Cheers, Holger
October 21, 200619 yr Thanks for the comments. One thought I have is that because I am not very mobile and must be at home most of the time other than at work I am lucky enough to have time to try and learn. I could wait but I have the spare time etc.As far as buying a new car goes. Let's say that everytime I buy a new car I keep the engine but eventually end up with a respray, a bit of bodywork to impress the ladies, dice hanging from the mirror, new carpet, eventually a whole fleet of cars. By the time a couple of years have passed my first car looks nothing like the one I bought but is exactly to my liking, all that is left is the engine which was from a Ferrari and worked well without any changes.BTW this is not for complaints (I have dropped that mode for now). Just trying to encourage even one or two to have a go :-) Something I did and used a bit in FS2002/FS9 was basic scenery some of which were like the area in the Denali Adventure so I could land with skis on snow without sinking. Beat yah to it ACES lol.Andrew
