can't load checklist into GNS500 (resolved)

Featured Replies

I've read the manual and searched a few posts in the archive and I can't get my first checklist to show in the GNS500.  I have tried to copy the format in the sample and I have placed the text file into the appropriate airplane folder and renamed it "checklist.gns"  Here is a copy of the file:

REALITY XP GNS 2
  Settings     CHK
Before Starting
    Parking Brake: SET
    Flight Controls: CHECK
    Throttle: IDLE
    Master Switch: ON
    Generator Light: ON
    Trim Control: CENTERED
    Trim Switch: LEFT
    Fuel Quantity: CHECK
    Master Switch: OFF

Startup
    Brakes SET
    Master Switch ON
    Fuel Selector Valves BOTH ON
Electric Fuel Pump ON until pressure reads 0.3 bar
    Electric Fuel Pump OFF
    Throttle IDLE
Choke ON if air temperature is below 8 deg C
    Ignition Switches BOTH ON
    Master Switch START
    Engine Instruments CHECK
    Choke OFF
    Engine rpm 2000-2500rpm
    Fuel Pressure CHECK

Before T/O
    Parking Brake: ON
    Seats & Belts: SECURE
    Canopy: CLOSED AND LOCKED
    Altimeter: SET
    Radio & Avionics: ON

<snip here for brevity>

What am I doing wrong? Am I missing a step or misunderstanding the instructions?

Hi,

first things first: which simulator? OS? Versions?

Then, is the checklist included in the sample pack working ok in your aircraft?

meaning can you start ensuring the sample checklist file included in your installation, the very same you've used to copy the format from, well, is this checklist file, as-is, after renaming the .txt to .gns, is at least working in your aircraft, whatever the aircraft it is, but the same aircraft you've tried previously?

Windows 7 was hiding the file extensions so when I changed checklist.txt to checklist.gns it was actually "checklist.gns.txt" so no wonder it didn't work. I have amended all my P3D aircraft files to now show the extensions.

However now when the screen loads and I click the Enter button to OK the database license screen, it changes to Go To Checklist? and if I click enter to OK it, the whole program freezes and crashes.

If I disable checklist.gns, it goes to the Nav 2 screen if I OK Go To Checklist.

Very perplexing but basically everything works except using the GNS for checklists.

you're still not answering: is this working fine with the checklist file which is included in the installation?

(don't use your own, use ours instead first to confirm)

Yes it works with your 172 sample. I've figured out what I'm doing wrong and how to match your syntax going forward.

great, the feature is working!

Would you mind sharing what was the error in your file so that it helps others searching the forum for similar problems in the future?

I had some entries in the file that didn't follow the indent protocol and it was causing the CTD.
