Repaint request XPlane11 Carenado Phenom100

Featured Replies

Hello all,

This is obviously addressed to all our re-painters so I apologize in advance if I have stuck my oar into the wrong forum or area.

I purchased the (you guessed it) Carenado Phenom 100 in the current sale. I love the PT-ARS design and repaint  (or the default N1367R).

I am wondering, however, if anyone could just change the colors to dark (Brunswick) green for the large (black) portion and gold stripes above and below. I would also like to (if possible) change the aircraft registration to VH-CAC.

After looking I have found a lot of repainting advice, which to my aged and feeble mind, seems a little complicated.  However, I am unable to find anything regarding to the Carenado Phenom 100 and just changing the colors. Further, I have heard on the grapevine, that Carenado aircraft are notoriously difficult to repaint.

If anyone can help me out with this, I would really appreciate it.

The finished product would be made freely available on the AVSIM repaint downloads library.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested.

Regards

Tony

Three options:
1. Offer money as an incentive.
2. Do it yourself.
3. Enjoy whatever paints there are.

Bjoern,

I had to try I guess.

Being an aged pensioner with very limited creative and technical ability, I am going to assume, this is going the usual way of a normal response to the lack of validity in todays world, of most aged people.  (I acknowledge that most people will not know that I am, in fact, in that segment of the worlds population)

Gloomy and pessimistic, I know but an attitude hard to ignore lately, in todays economic and political climate.

Thanks at least for the heads up mate.

It has absolutely nothing to do with age and it's frankly disingenuous to suggest as much.

The #1 rule on the internet is "Nobody owes you anything." If you want something, make it yourself or offer something of appropriate market value to compensate someone for their time and then just maybe you'll find someone willing to take you up on that offer.

People who are willing to freely donate their time to the community are motivated by projects that arouse their own passions. You can't possibly expect anybody to find motivation to donate time to whatever suits your fancy if you're not providing suitable incentive.

Pretext,

I was not actually commenting on anything other than the general attitude of the younger generation towards the "reached used by date" of the aged.  I stress "general attitude" as well. This applies, as well, to Governments world wide and the trend to disengage with Aged Pensioners and veterans.

I believe that it is largely being seen as aged people have nothing significent to contribute any more and at this stage of life, are being seen as a financial liability.

I am also old enough to realize that it is ALL about age and it is not disingenuous(?) as such.  It is all about the inevitable realization that we can no longer fully grasp new technologies, can no longer do the physical things we used to do, and can no longer contribute to the world as we would like to do. Vast experience, unfortunately and apparently, count little to the younger generation (largely justified, I might add, because a lot of that experience is no longer really relevant)

Another point, is that  I believe that we are all directly responsible for the decisions we make individually, which lead us to personal levels of health, wealth and general well being in our final years. We simply grew up in a different world with different attitudes and a lot of our "plight" stems from a lack of adaption to change.  That it is ALL self inflicted is hard to deny.

With your last paragraph, are you seriously suggesting, that anyone utilising this forum (and others) should start their post with an offer of compensation before stating their request (be it advice or a repaint or even information) If so, and I seriously doubt that this was your intention, I have to say that you may well be misinterpreting the purpose of a forum in the first place,

Having reached  the age (70s) and not to have a basic understanding of all the points you felt you had to mention, puts me into the "caveman" category, Frankly, whilst I do KNOW that this was not your intention, it is seriously condescending to say the least.

This subject is, however, seriously "off topic" and I intend to make little further comment on this aspect.

Back to topic.

If anybody can genuinely help with any advice on how to do this (please read the original post .... I cannot find anything on Google (or the internet) specifically relating to Carenado repaints.) I would seriously and genuinely appreciate.

Demands or requests for payment/suitable compensation/incentives, for this advice could be directed to me via PM

Regards with apologies for this rant.

On the other hand, you've got all the time in the world to do some googling, reading and experimenting.

Social status does not carry over into the internet, especially not when dealing with complete strangers.

And "very limited creative and technical ability" is never an excuse, especially considering a nearly all-knowing internet search engine available at your finger tips and the aforementioned available time.

Yes, it does. The reaction is the small heart you're seeing at the bottom right corner of your second to last post. 😉

I am so grateful to have re-acquired all the knowledge of all the things I knew about the internet.

Not quite so grateful to learn none of the things I actually enquired about.

If I sound ticked off, it may be because I am

Hi Tony!

Currently, the majority of volunteers aren't interested in working with X-Plane anymore. Everyone is anticipating to put their hands on the upcoming MSFS2020.

Looking forward to meeting you in MSFS2020's skies!

Bjoern,

Any CIVIL and or, relevant response would have been nice, in iieu of the unsolicited advice I received. By the way Seasol is a great fertiliser for most plants.

OSM.

One can only hope that their forum response is better than this one. Yes, I can pretty much guarantee, I will be in there with MSFS2020.  I am also hoping that XPlane will, in fact, continue strongly, with or without a helpful forum. It is in fact, a great programme.

Having got that off my chest, I have found that most, (I stress, most) of the people on this and other forums (forae) are considerate and helpful. Obviously there are exceptions, and having recently got reasonably serious about XPlane and its completely different procedures and concepts, I find that I am struggling somewhat with setting it up.

No matter how I would have worded it, the core message would have been what I wrote in my first reply.

Anyway, good luck finding somebody. I'm out.

Bjoern,

Thanks for that reply.

May I simply ask why you considered all your responses were really relevant. I was/am/always will be, aware that no response is generally an indication of a "no response" I really did not need to be given the advice that everyone responded with, particularly offering "suitable incentive" for advice on this forum.

In reality, all I was asking for was either a repaint, or advice on how to do it and I guess my final response will be to go to Carnado and ask them for this advice. To have started a war of words was not ever my intention, nor will it ever be.

I apologise sincerely to one and all, for requesting this advice and please rest assured that, sadly, any further request for advice of this nature, on this forum will be preceded by considerable forethought and consideration.

Potted Palm trees (unless plastic) will still benefit from Seasol.

For all other readers of this post, I would still like, following many hours, specifically googling Carenado repaints, any advice on how to go about this, what software I may require and any links, tips or tricks.  This is a first time project for me and quite frankly, I do not know where to start.

Thank you

Tony

I recommend GIMP as a free tool for painting.

The basic workflow for repainting aircraft textures is

  1. Get a blank texture or find the texture that you want to alter (make a backup first) or get the paintkit (white textures with layers for panel lines, rivets, dirt, etc.)
  2. Open it with GIMP
  3. Do your edits
  4. Export it in an X-Plane compliant format (PNG or DDS). Note that in GIMP, exporting will NOT save any layers and other things, so you have to save a copy in GIMP's XCF format as well if you do not want to start over from your previously exported PNG/DDS texture
  5. If not modifying an exisiting repaint, create new folder for the repaint in the Phenom's "livery" folder
  6. Check the result in X-Plane (you do not need to restart the entire simulator once you've started it; "Developer Tools" -> "Reload Aircraft" will suffice to reload the textures)

The problem with the process is that there is no "one size fits all" solution to step three. All texture layouts are different, all paintkits are different (if you can find one in the first place) and everybody has a different workflow. You might want to start with doodling something onto the texture to get a feel for it and see the result and then either read up on how to paint in GIMP (tutorials for FSX will do, anything that happens in GIMP is the same for any simulator) or experiment with the various selection, brush, pencil and fill tools.

Most importantly though, you shoudn't throw in the towel too fast. First paints always take a really long time and look awful, but practice makes perfect. And you can always ask Google if you're stuck (and it isn't an extremely specific issue).
