October 22, 200619 yr anyone got their trackir working in fsx retail? With the latest patch/driver for fsx from edimensional it won't work in demo#2. Paul@ehgg
October 22, 200619 yr Yes, the latest patch/driver works 100% fine in retail FSX - did not work for me in Beta3. Interestingly TrackIR also works in 2D cockpit mode and the outside views (quite annoyingly actually).
October 22, 200619 yr Hi Koorby,Which drivers are you using in FSX retail? There is a bit of a thread going on over at the Naturalpoint forums with quite a few people not able to get it working;( CheersMike
October 22, 200619 yr I seem to remember that tdragger stated that the demos are not able to support trackir. It only works in the retail version itself. And very good as I may say.Herrie
October 22, 200619 yr Author >Interestingly TrackIR also works in 2D cockpit mode and the outside >views (quite annoyingly actually).Have you tried F9 (I think) to switch the tracking off when in outside view?
October 23, 200619 yr Yep, there is no support in the Demo applications for some 3rd party add-on hardware, unfortunately that includes the TrackIR.
October 24, 200619 yr Having to hit the F9 key after changing views is almost as annoying as the spot view head tracking in the first place. Technically possible? Yes. Desireable? No. I'd consider it a workaround at best.People buy head trackers for increased immersion. Fumbling with multiple keys to change and lock one's view just takes away from the experience.I don't mind head tracking with some outside views but the spot view and locked spot view are especially annoying. They're not as intuitive to use since rotating your head one direction causes your view to circle the plane in the other direction. Lets face it, head trackers are useful for a fixed seat situation whereas a hat switch is better suited to spot views.Granted, there'll always be somebody who likes a certain feature and someone else who hates it. To be honest though, I think enough people hate the new head tracker behavior in spot view to at least justify an option for those who wish not to use it. It could even just be buried inside a .cfg file or something so that cost of developing a GUI is saved.I won't be throwing out my head tracker anytime soon but I probably will continue using FS9 more than FSX so long as they keep this annoyance in place. The difference between a good program and a great one is often in how many steps one must take to perform what should be a simple and common action.
October 24, 200619 yr Is there anyone who DOES want TIR active in spot and 2d cockpit views? I've heard from several who don't like it, but no one who does.
October 24, 200619 yr I've only heard from one that suggested they liked it over on the naturalpoint site and they may have been referring more to the tail view and wingtip views than the spot views. Dunno.I do hate it in the 2D view quite a bit. Sorta gives me the feeling that I'm in a flat spin looking around with the console straight ahead.I guess on a good note I do like the ability to define additional seat views. Just put a back seat in my Carenado Mentor. One of the cool things about that plane is that they put a full set of working gauges back there too. The problem with TIR I've always had in the past is that you couldn't slew back there by the keyboard and then use the head tracker to look around without it resetting your position to the original pilot location (plus or minus your current head's x,y,z position). Not a problem now!
October 24, 200619 yr If you have the deluxe FSX, in the SDK there is help about the various view commands listed in the aircraft config files... something like panning-snap... I have not tried anything myself, but this may help!I too do not like the 2D panning with TIR, and maybe a revision by Naturalpoint might be a better solution, than messing with every aircraft config.
October 25, 200619 yr <"Having to hit the F9 key after changing views is almost as annoying as the spot view head tracking in the first place."> <"(quite annoyingly actually)."> Darned right it's annoying!- Just re-assign F9 to the mouse wheel button. Then you will be able to use the hat switch as per fs9 - but without the gradual transistion. (Unless someone has found that). The other thing - which I think is a mistake by Microsoft - is them leaving out the "old" "views" facility - "roll/fixed/loop - and gradual transition". I very much miss this, but there are many plusses to FSX, so I'm not dumping it. I have good fps and will stick with it. I love practicing low aerobatics around the San Diego area, (it makes FS9 look like a cartoon)and these issues will get ironed out sooner or later. I found that Track IR4 seemed overly sensitive in FSX: not so in FS9. I used mostly slightly modified default settings - mirrored - in FS9. In FSX I have spent four evenings - disabling all, re-enabling and modifying each one at a time - not mirrored or copied to all. Then flying the Cessna at SanDiego and making further minor adjustments. Now I'm 100% satisfied and can look anywhere without problems. Oh - yes - I left the "Y" axis disabled because it seemed to interfere with the Pitch axis. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
