I don't understand the whining and crying!

Featured Replies

All of the whining and crying about this and that with FSX simply amazes me! People complained about FS2004, (and all previous versions), and why didn't it have this feature, or how come they could not make this doo-dad work. Now that the doo-dads are there and work, they complain about what a picec of crap this new thing called FSX is, and how they wasted their hard earned cash.I'm running FSX on a "middle of the road" type computer---a 2.0 ghz machine with 1 gig of ram, and am getting great performance out of it. Granted, I do not have all the sliders to maximum, (as I would guess that 99% of the other users don't either), but I get great performance. The graphics, effects, water, etc., are so much better than FS2004 could ever be, that I've not gone back to FS2004 since I installed FSX many days ago. With FS2004, I could not use any real weather with clouds, as it brought my machine to it's knees, causing stutters, jerkiness, etc. With FSX I can run real world weather, and have absolutely no affect on the performance.Every version of sim that I've ever owned was/is more demanding on your computer system, and most of these whiners and complainers should certainly have been aware of that too. I can see where some one who is a "newbie" may have been mis-lead, but for gosh sakes, anyone who can read should be able to know whether or not their computer can adequately handle FSX, as it is clearly stated on the box what the minium specs are.Almost everyone demands more features in software packages, but then when they get them, all they can do is complain that "this thing sucks", or "Jeez, I sure wasted a bunch of money for this XXXXX piece of software. Get over it already! Tuen the sliders down to a spot that will allow your computer to run efficiently, and be satisfied! Take your so-called piece of junk software and put it in your next garage sale and dispose of it. Then you won't have anything to complain about anymore. As for me, I'm going to enjoy FSX for what it is, a great product. It is sure to offer me many hours of flying enjoyment right up until the release of the next version.Darrell

Here is what I did. Finally picked up FSX at Circuit City on Saturday. Paid $47.99, $51.71 with tax.Went back and opened up my Tin Box of FS2004 COF, Looked at Receipt, and it read Costco, August 8th, 2003, Paid $46.99. Over three years ago...So FSX Cost me exactly $1.00 More for the new verison than I paid for the last new version. Bwahhahaha.... Now that was funny to me at least... What a Bargain... (BTW - No way I was paying full retail...)Anyway, I came home and did the following.I completely Uninstalled FS2004, COF, using the MS Suggestions for removing if you have the patch. (This includes removing all registry settings).BTW - The manual remove instructions are here for anyone interested...http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888846I then installed FSX, and I am withholding my full judgement until I get a few hours in and check out a few things. If I do decide to reinstall older aircraft, I'll do that later. I know the Multiplayer is crap, IMHO, after getting booted a few times from GameCrook... I am keeping tabs at FSHOST, as they will be issuing a newer version for FSX, and all will be fine in my Multiplayer world and I won't have to use GameCrook...The sim seems much smoother, but my older system is not up to full snuff. I am considering a New AGP card, possibly the ATI X850 Pro 256mb to get me through until my next system. Here is what I have thus far.AMD AthlonXP 3000+ Barton o/c at 13 x 182 = 23662gb Corsair Value RamSapphire 9600xt 256mb o/c to 536/330FPS were what I expected considering what I have.*****************And Now on to your post*****************As for the whining, SO WHAT......If people want to whine let them, this post of yours is really you just whining about them, and you are exhibiting the same behavior you are opining about.I see it as people's rightful opinions the same as your rant here. For every person that complains about something that does not meet their expectations, someone else tries to diminish their opinions. Why not accept that others have opinions and leave it at that. You say you are amazed at these opinions.I am not amazed, I expected them, and I feel many others who have been around a long time here expected them as well. 9or they are in denial...)I will say I am happy that this site (Avsim), at least does not Censor peoples opinions and in fact allows them to opine about their disappointed expectations. As consumers, all people should be able to express their discontent about ANY Product they pay for.I call it FREEDOM of Expression, and well, others like you I guess call it whining. So relax, take a few flights, and don't let others opinions amaze you as much. So, IMHO, Tweak your sim, take a flight, and realize your expectations are met, but try not to pass judgment on what others own personal expectations are when they spend their money.IMHO, they have every right, and in some cases, even a responsibility to point out their perceived flaws, whether you experience them or not.Have a nice day,Sincerely,Proud Avsim Member,Sonar5(Not whining, only observing)

Quote:Wider, not faster"There's still plenty of headroom left in the "slow and wide" approach, though, so that's the direction that Intel is now turning its entire product line. Intel explicitly and repeatedly stated in their IDF keynote that the days of MHz as a (flawed) performance metric and marketing tool are at an end, and that the new buzzword is features."http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/cpu...el-future.ars/1Intel currently is starting to place two single core processor dies into one package in order to create a dual core this way. This could be repeated in the future by combining two dual core dies. The big news for the end of next year will be the first desktop processor product with four physical cores - although these are not going to be on a single die. Kentsfield is expected to hit the market in early or mid 2007. And yes, the code name is intended to be somewhat similar to Smithfield, since the target market segment is the same.http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/04/top...ered/page4.htmlThe climax of Intel's move to 45 nm will obviously be processors with as many as eight cores on a die. Technically, the Yorkfield and Harpertown cores are pretty similar, while Yorkfield steps into the desktop space and Harpertown harpoons the enterprise customer. Both will be 45 nm parts, with four cores and as much as 12 MB L2 cache. We can't say how the geometry of this chip is going to be and we suppose Intel is not entirely sure yet either. As it looks right now, four Wolfdale type chips with 3 MB L2 cache each could be lined up together in order to realize the huge quad core super chip. Alternatively we could imagine Intel pulling two quad cores with 6 MB L2 cache each. Although these are not yet outlined, we believe this could be added rather quickly.

I knew it wouldn't take you long to jump in here Joe. Pretty much what I expected. As far as shutting down anything anywhere, it's obvious you haven't gotten around much lately.Later,Darrell

You know this is getting so old and irritating its becomming rediculous. Why are all you Cheerleaders continuously defending this product??If its that good, why do you feel you have to defend it ?? Yourgetting good frame rates ? Good Im happy for you !! Do I care? Not in the least. Im more concerned with the poor guy thats boughtit and having troubles.. Yes thats right the "whiner". If I canhelp him I will. Thank goodness some people have come out witha few tweaks that help, rather than sit and tell the poor guy hesgot to spend a grand and a half or so for a new super duper P5.6 with30 gig of DDR ram and a kiswalski super 8 video card. Ever thinkthat some people have other comitments like families or tuitions,or maybe its just that mommy and daddy wont buy one for them. Before anyone says it, no its not me. Im doing just fine thank you.But please, spare me this "I dont understand" Rah! Rah ! crud. Your nothelping them and your not making them feel any better. Would I upgrade? Not on your life, not for this thing. Maybe IF PMDG, LDS and otherscome up with FXS versions, you know the ones with good flightdynamics and functional panels, not just eye candy. I may considerit.

>You know this is getting so old and irritating its becomming>rediculous.>Why are all you Cheerleaders continuously defending this>product??>If its that good, why do you feel you have to defend it ??>Your>getting good frame rates? Good Im happy for you !! Do I>care?>Not in the least.Good god, what a hypocrite, you are posting the same thing you are complaining about. The reason us "cheerleaders" are defending it is we can see the promise it holds since we are passionate about FS. I don't deny there are issues, I'm really bummed there are no rain effects in the VC, like what we had in FS9. I just finished landing my seahawk on a moving carrier in a storm, something you can't ever do in FS9Like my boss always tells me, you want to complain, then come up with a possible solution to go with it.Regards, MichaelKDFW

Um, no, a person who comes in here with a problem, looking for help, usually gets it. A person who comes in screaming about horrible software and stupid developers gets the troll treatment, and is usually classified as a whiner. Why is it if, say, I started a FSX praise thread, sharing my positive experiences, that people such as yourself call me a cheerleader? Wouldn't that be the same as a black man saying "Hey cracker, stop calling me out as black"?. Do you see my point here? The pot calling the kettle black, see?I can very easily navigate through the crud, but it's the people who are self rightously touting their position as THE ONLY WAY!! that bothers me greatly. If you are having serious problems with FSX, please post it and hopefully we can help you.If you want to spout about your frustrations with FSX, do so in a civilized manner that doesn't call-out others and belittle them for expressing their own opinions. That is all anyone ever expects. I will not smash someone's honest opinion if stated in a civilized manner. Everybody who has ever posted on here, AFAIK, is a human being, so let's toss the animal raging only-me-and-my-views-are-important act and have some compassion and understanding.
