P3DV4 Won't Start When GSX Installed.

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm having problems with GSX because P3DV4 keeps crashing,(when I say "Crashing" I mean P3DV4 won't start when GSX installed as seen in the title.) I tried FSDreamteam support but the they were no help, i'm thinking that the people here will give better support, okay enough with my rambling here is both error logs.

If you edit exe.xml and set enable=false for couatl.exe does P3D then load okay?

Hi Ray, when I look in the exe.xml file I don't see any entry's for couatl.exe do you think that could be the issue? and also I only see any entry's for couatl.exe in the add-ons.cfg.

Hi Danny. That’s probably the correct location, sorry.

Anyway, fire up P3D and see if the problem is fixed. If it isn’t then temporarily remove the addon for couatl and try again.

I had a similar problem a while ago, it was resolved with a re-installation of GSX. Sometimes the files can get corrupted.

Ok, when I removed the add-on.xml file P3DV4 started-up, but when I put the add-on.xml file back, P3DV4 did not start-up. (same result with uninstalling GSX) so this is how I identified that GSX was the issue.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Thanks for the suggestion but, Umberto told me the same same thing. (and I tried it seven times now) and it still did not work that is why I came here.

Danny, make sure you don't have multiple entries in add-on.xml for couatl. There is one in Program Data\LM\P3Dv4 and the other is the one under your username\AppData etc.

I will check if I did this, (which I think I did) when I get home from work.

Um, I don't see an add-on.xml file in the specified location, I only see an add-on.xml file in. C:\Users\username\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\FsDreamTeam Addon Manager. is this an issue?

Hi Danny,

Sorry for being a little vague/ My posts were from memory as I didn't have the FS computer on.

Here's what you need to check. Under My Documents\Prepar3Dv4 Addons there is a folder named FS DreamTeam Addon Manager. In that is an add-on.xml that contains 7 entries including couatl.exe.

That appears to be the controlling file for GSX. I cannot find a separate add-on entry in that folder for GSX.

In P3D under Addons menu item you should see Addon Manager which contains your registrations for FSDT products. There is also a GSX and two Couatl entries.

If you can't get into P3D I suggest reinstalling Addon Manager downloadable from FSDT site. That is the critical element to all FSDT products working.

Hi Ray, I checked what you asked me to check, and, yes the add-on.xml file is there, but I saw something interesting when I take the add-on.xml out of the folder (without uninstalling GSX) P3DV4 starts up and also I did not know that you could install Addon Manager separately?

Hi Danny. As I suspected it’s the files loaded by Addon Manager that are the problem.

FSDT advise it’s not necessary to run Addon Manager exe any longer. Instead you should have a Live Update shortcut on your desktop. Run that and see if it fixes the problem.

Hi Ray, I ran the Live Updater and it did not fix the problem, unfortunately.
