October 25, 200619 yr So I've done about everything except for resized textures...Fiber frame is at .1poolsize=10000000texture bandwidth mult=400texture max load= 512I'm getting a pretty consistant 25-30FPS in VC with normal autogen and normal scenery (with autogen tweak set at like, 100 and 80)Not maxing out my vid card memory, or my system memory. So my FPS is ok, but no matter what I mess around with, I still seem to stutter. What would have the most effect on stutters? General Texture quality? Terrain mesh? I'll post my FSX.CFG and my settings cfg when I get home... Laptop specs in siggy.
October 25, 200619 yr I like you, have doe all of the tweaks (including texture resizing) and still have stutters!

October 25, 200619 yr 1. Defender 2 beta is a huge CPU hog everytime you access a file and you are constantly accessing files in FS. You can check that in task manager. Best advice, uninstall it. A FSX enthusiast has no time, with all the tweaking, to visit nasty sites so have no fear of spyware, maliciousware and whathaveyouware.2. CPU heating up. If it heats up and there is thermal throttling in your BIOS then you'll get those jerks aka stutters not the foul word.
October 25, 200619 yr Some have had good luck by setting the fps target at unlimited. If I do, I get stutters. With it set at 30fps it's smooth.L.Adamson

I dont see it anywhere in my taskmanager, unless it starts with something other than a "D" for "Defender"...CPU heat will cause what? Slower movement of data through the CPU? What is this "thermal throttling" you speak of?edit: how can I look to see what my CPU temp is? I have ATI Tray Tools, ATI CCC... either of those have anything useful to check CPU temp? Or is there another way?...
October 26, 200619 yr hmmm... I've been running at unlimited since I've gotten the demo2... one of the first things I changed... but I've also ran at 40... I usually avg 35...
October 26, 200619 yr I have been messing with the sim for about 5 straight days, flying for about 20 seconds, and tweaking for hours each time. I solved my stutters last night, and it was the texture bandwidth multi setting that did it. I had it as high as 400 and as low as 100, but for some reason 300 works for me, and the stutters are gone. Try playing with this, since it seems to be a sensitive adjustment, and don't do like me and change 5 things at one time, as one can greatly affect things for the better or worse. Also, it has been stated that many believe the "fiber" tweak of .33 to tie in close with texture bandwidth, I finally settled for a fiber frame of .20 - was as high as .33 and as low as .10 - oh yea, my poolsize is at 5000000.I have sliders mid to high on everything, if you want I can post the settings when I get home this evening.Hope this helpsspecs: Win Xp SP2 - using black vipers xp "safe" settingsAthlon 64 3800 - at 2.4ghz2 SATA 150gigsATI X800XL 256meg PCIE1 gig corsair XMS - 820megs free within xpDanon O.
October 26, 200619 yr yeah, would be cool if you could post your FSX.cfg and the configuration file that you're using! What other tweaks you using? Texture tweaks?
October 26, 200619 yr I am only running the cloud textures and tree textures that have been posted, the reduced ones. I notice no visual quality loss at all, the clouds look great, and they really helped out FPS. Other than that, im stock install with FPS set to unlimited. Its really big where the sliders are, so I will post those tonight for you. I do know that global texture resolution is at high, detail radius at large (this was a biggie I think, really effected the stutters and went away at large instead of leaving at medium). I know how frustrating this can be, but we will get it working. Seriously, 5 days dedicated to fixing this and I almost quit. But it was running so well, FPS wise, that I couldnt see walking away from it.Danon O.
October 26, 200619 yr Ok, here are my settings within the sim.target frame rate: 30fpsglobal texture: Highadvanced animations: checkedFiltering: BilinearLevel of detail radius: largeMesh complexity: 50Mesh resolution: 19mTexture resolution: 2mWater effects: low 2.xScenery complexity: DenseAutogen: sparseSpecial effects detail: mediumLand detail: checkedcloud coverage: low/detailed cloudsCloud draw: 60 milesTraffic: 5%road vehicles, and ferries offcustom weather with 60 miles visibilty The config is where i want it, with the settings i posted earlier, now i will start tweaking the sliders, but this is my fall back for super smooth, no blurries.Let me know if this helpsDanon O.
October 27, 200619 yr Ok, oh wow ... I just looked at my cfg file (yes, in the Settings and Docs folder), and my CFG file does not have a listing for POOLSIZE or FIBER_FRAME (searched by eye and SEARCH option). Now I did run the last full demo, but after uninstall, am running the retail version. Why would some of us not have those parameters????
October 27, 200619 yr those would be in your FSX.CFG file that is found (hidden folder, so you'll need to have "show hidden files" selected), Hard drive/documents and settings/whatever username you are/application data/microsoft/FlightSimX (or somethin like that)/FSX.cfgI believe that is the correct path... just pulled that out of my head... try looking there.
