Few questions for a new flyer

Featured Replies

Hi

Hope someone could answer me some questions.

1) I was expecting a PDF manual with the Sim and cannot locate it. Is there one?

2) Is anyone experiencing very long loading times when starting the Sim and when going into flight?

3) I saw hardware questions were not allowed in this section. I just had a quick one. I have a HOTAS Warthog Throttle and it has 2 throttles. I notice in the controls section only my Right Throttle is appearing. Is that normal?

Thanks a lot.

What is "very long" to you? If you are new to the world of flightsims then you might be surprised that the loading times on average are pretty short.

Anything below 4 minutes is fast.

I agree to Farlis that loading times are well acceptable compared to other sims.

However, you are certainly right that the sim should have accopanied by a PDF manual. As you may have already found, there are a number of good YouTube tutorials (search for those by "Squirrel"), but in my mind they are NO substitue of a PDF manual.

Kind regards, Michael

If you are using a SSD, load times are reduced considerably over a HDD. I have not timed it but it is most certainly way below 4 mins. Maybe 2 mins, but I suspect, even less than that. I have Windows on one SSD and the Sim on another SSD. I also use the -FastLaunch command which knocks some seconds off.

For reference here: I timed the game loading and was able to get the welcome screen at 2m 15secs. That is without counting the pause between "Press any key to continue". Im using the -fastLaunch switch command and have set option to skip pre-flight cinematics in the game.

My specs are: Core i5 9600K @ 4,3GHz; GTX1060, 16GB DDR4 3200; Samsung EVO850 SSD

That's pretty consistent with mine.  I just timed a couple startups on my system, and a typical one broke down as follows, using fast launch.

  • Launch to first window appearance:  30 seconds
  • Time to "Press any key" screen:  14 seconds, 44 seconds total.
  • Time to "Checking for updates":  13 seconds, 57 seconds total
  • Time spent checking for updates: 26 seconds, 1:23 total
  • Time from blue bar appearing to main menu: 1:21, for 2:45 total

This is on an i7-9700 using my dedicated flight sim drive, a 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe drive about 40% full.
