Multiple controls configurations

Featured Replies

HiI have several control input devices (CH Products Yoke, pro pedals, pro joystick, throttle quadrant & Saitek joystick), and in FS9 created multiple fs9_xxx.cfg files along with shortcuts which specified which cfg file FS9 should load. This meant I could fly singles using just the yoke & pedals, twins using the yoke, pedals & throttle quadrant, helis with pro throttle, joystick & pedals (and so on...) just by launching from the relevant shortcut.Although FSX allows you to save customised config files in ..My DocumentsFlight Simulator X Files these don't contain the control configuration. Neither do the 'default' config files in Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftFSX, so the old FS9 method can't be used.Does anyone know if there is a way to save multiple controls configurations in FSX to emulate this useful capability of FS9? It is a major (and I mean MAJOR) pain having to reconfigure multiple devices just to swap aircraft.Chris

Hi ChrisI am at work right now, but I have also been fiddling around - trying to find these settings, which used to rest in the FS9.cfg file.Well I found a 'html' file which I forgot the name off right here, but it shoulden't be difficult to find - is it called 'controls.htm'? or something like that??Look for that. When everything is setup OK, save it to a logical name in the same matter you used to do in FS9. It contains all joystick information.Hope this helped.RegardsHenrik KorningBGGH

yes u can - in X:Documents and SettingsD BrownApplication DataMicrosoftFSXControl (X is where u installed FSX) u will see a file called Standard.xmlWhen u first run this was created by FSX for your controllers etcIn your FSX.cfg file look for this section:[CONTROLS]Controls_Default=StandardControls_Current=StandardThe bottom line is for the one in the controls folderIf u rename the bottom line to Controls_Current=CessnaU can then rename the Standard.xml file to Cessna.xml (or whatever)it loads those settings.I have a few - one for helo joystick another for the cessna default etcIts a bit of editing to do if u are using different planes but u can do what I did - same thing with FS9.Find your fsx.exe file and make a copy in the same folder(fsx folder). Then rename that copy to what u want - one of mine is Cessna with G1000 at LEAL.exeThen make a shortcut somewhere - like the desktop for eg.Run the shortcut or run the exe file u renamed either way depends on how u feel. I put all mine in a desktop folder. When that executes u are starting from scratch and u set it up how u want etc Go and look in the folder where your fsx.cfg file is(use search if u don't know)and you will find one named Cessna with G1000 at LEALthe same as you named the exe file earlier - so this creates a standard.xml file (it will overwrite the original if you have not renamed it)- if for example u have set up a particular controller u can rename the standard to whatever - lets say CessG100 - I have not tried it yet but have kept to 8 characters for rename of standard.xmlOpen up the new cfg file find the control lines again and put the name CessG100 in place of standard as above. This can probably be improved on so have a go - and make backups. Not responsible if you corrupt your FSX install. It does work.

Many thanks Denis, that works a treat! One of my many FSX frustrations is sorted out at last.Cheers,Chris

Don't forget, with the registered version of FSUIPC you can have multiple configuraitons of buttons, keys, axis, calibration, and so forth which can be called upon by the aircraft name. All automatically after setting up for a particular aircraft. The real advatage here compared to the above new feature of multiple control.xml files is that you don't have to fumble with the control files and restart the game to switch aircraft. Plus, I believe Pete's calibration routine is top-notch. Some friendly advice...
