August 19, 20205 yr Hi, a quick question, is it safe to use SSDs as a cache seeing as how they have a lifetime write limit?
August 19, 20205 yr That’s an interesting question I didn’t even think about... / CPU: Intel i7-9700K @4.9 / RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3200 / GPU: RTX 4080 16GB / Freight Pilot
August 19, 20205 yr Firstly...the amount of writes will depend on how often you fly in differing areas because, to be on the safe side, you can just download/save your most commonly flown scenery areas to avoid too many writes over the long term. Secondly..in the short term I wouldn't worry about it since the amount of writes it can handle before reaching the end of its life cycle is huge (takes many years). So yes it will effect the drive...but will it actually effect you or your system before you replace it anyway? That's difficult to answer...but likely not unless you're a real road scholor flying 60 hours a week to all different locals.
