October 29, 200619 yr Was wondering if anyone is having problems with the panels in the 747. In 2D mode when Normal/PFD switch is switched to PFD, the HSI and the engine control panels are black with no guages. The VC panel HSI and engine contol panels are black as well.I have tried two video drivers (91.47 and beta 92.91) but they do not correct the problem.Could this be a bug or a computer problem? Thanks,CarlDell Dimension 510 P4-3.4g, 2gram, 7600GS PCie, 256MB Carl PC AMD Ryzen R7-5700G (8-Core) processor), AMD Radeon RX 6600 Graphics 8GB/ 2TB HD + 500GB SSD, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, Win11 _____________________________________________________________________________________
November 1, 200619 yr I'm having the same problem on my machine. Only for me it's worse: I don't get ANY gauges displayed except the backup compass in both the 2d and 3d panels. This is perfectly reproducible, both in the 747 mission and in free flight. It also only seems to happen with the 747. All other planes work just fine.I have a HP nw8240 laptop with an ATI FireGL v5000 (basically a badge engineered Radeon x300) with 128MB of video RAM and 2GB of main memory.-- Stefan
November 1, 200619 yr It is amazing that we are the only ones that have this problem. Maybe others have been busy still tweaking FSX and have not tried the 747. November 1, 200619 yr I just looked at the default 747 panel files, especially the panel.cfg file. It references a dll called "Boeing747-400.dll" that should be in the Gauges directory if I understand this correctly. I checked, and it wasn't there !! It looks like the installer might have "forgot" to install it. I don't have the installation DVDs with me right now but I'll try to find that dll there when I get home.
November 1, 200619 yr You may have something. I did a search for the "boeing747-400.dll" file and no such luck. There is a "boeinggeneric.dll located in the guage folder which the 747 uses. Also there is a "boeing747-400 cabinet file located in the panel folder. If there is suppose to be a "boeing747-400" file located in the guage folder then that could be our problem. November 1, 200619 yr sorryA "senior moment" just happened... that is the gauge folder. I do not have a guage folder. November 2, 200619 yr It can reside in the Panel folder.>You may have something. I did a search for the>"boeing747-400.dll" file and no such luck. November 2, 200619 yr Highly interesting, for there shouldn't be any dedicated *.dll for the 744 (and there in fact isn't, neither is panel.cfg referencing to any dedicated 744 *.dll). The only gauges it uses are stored in the CAB within its panel folder (except for radio stack). The Normal/PFD knob btw would also turn off two of my CRTs here IIRC, but turning it back would bring em back on.
November 2, 200619 yr Hi,So far, I'm finding the 747 to have worst VC I've tried yet. This may be getting nit-picky, but...If I use the 'A' button(to cycle) or use F10 to bring up the 2D Panel, there is a knob to change the MFD to full or rose compass. It's non-functional in the VC.Yaw Dampers? The 747 has Yaw Dampers, right? Where's the Yaw Damper switch? The only functional switches on the overhead are for lighting, the Yaw Damper switches on there are just a static picture, and I haven't found a working switch for them anywhere. If you go into spot view while flying and press CTRL-D you will find that the plane is equipped with Yaw Dampers, but how about AT LEAST an indicator somehwere for whether they are on/off. It's possible this functionality is somewhere on the panel and I have just missed it. If so, someone please point it out to me.The panel is as much of a frame rate hit as one of the G1000 equipped GA planes. Arrrghh, I need a new computer.
November 2, 200619 yr >It can reside in the Panel folder.Yeah, noticed that too. I guess I assumed that because there are files for the 737 and Baron in the Gauges folder that the 744 should also have one there. It's amazing how they would be able to screw up that panel since it doesn't seem to have changed at all since fs9.
November 2, 200619 yr FWIW... I am getting the panel fine. Some of the click spots do not work and there is an issue with the lighting system controlling the lights (landing lights turn off strobes and nav).duttonhttp://dutton.fsblogger.com/
November 2, 200619 yr Dutton,For starters some of the buttons on my deefault 747 that are not working in VC mode are the ones above the HSI, specifically the horizontal row of buttons "wpt, aprt, data etc. and the ones above those. Are any of those buttons/knobs working in VC?Thanks for your help,Carl Carl PC AMD Ryzen R7-5700G (8-Core) processor), AMD Radeon RX 6600 Graphics 8GB/ 2TB HD + 500GB SSD, 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, Win11 _____________________________________________________________________________________

The 747 panel.cfg does reference the "BoeingGeneric.dll", just FYI, for the Comm/Nav/ADF. etc gauges. Paul
November 3, 200619 yr FYI: I've opened a support request with Microsoft about this. If I learn something new I'll post it here.
November 7, 200619 yr After going through the usual generic troubleshooting steps they always seem to throw at you first, the MS support guy said that they were getting lots of instances of this problem and had determined that it was due to outdated drivers. Since I'm running on a laptop I unfortunately can't install the latest ATI drivers until the OEM manufacturer (HP) makes them available. ctiger, do you have the latest drivers for your card ?I also noticed that the problem on my machine isn't just limited to the 747: I also don't see any gauges for the Robinson helicopter and the DC-3. I also don't see the standard GPS via shift-3.
