does anyone know if there is a way to use the legacy FSX / P3D Garmin 500 in the new sim please?

At the moment, unfortunately not...

Some people are working on somehow bringing old gauges back to life, but that might take a while.

Thanks Kronzky - yes the old Garmin as a 'Pop-up' was always very useful as a kind of kneeboard GPS in older aircraft

 

No 'pop up' allowed in MSFS though so far

With "ALT GR" plus mouseclikck, you can pop-up some of the instruments in mfs2020.

The pop up with the “right ALT” key is used with the mouse pointer.  Place your cursor on a glass instrument, you will see a circle with crosshairs, Left click on that circle.
 

A window pops up. You can move, resize, zoom larger, smaller, and minimize. You can also multiple pop ups.

This will not work on the Autopilot or a radio, just glass gauges or instruments.
