November 1, 200619 yr Performance is all about autogen and water....now.....and your shots look pretty spectacular!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Why not post a photo of your FPS Mike T? Or if you have post a link if you would. It may be the Vista Beta your running.
November 1, 200619 yr I'd say the Vista Beta is not helping-just from what I have read elsewhere...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Mike,I'm having a great time flying out of KSLC and heading over the mountains to the east using FSX. The textures are stunning compared to FS9. I like real aviation photography, FSX just must come closer in my mind to a photo. Frame rates for this scenario are a constant 29+ to 30, with frame target at 30. The sim is exceptionaly fluid and smooth, with absolutely no stutter. The improved airmass variations are also a great bonus.I messed around with FS9 a bit this evening, and loaded up FSX. There must be a reason. What annoys me most, is all the harping on why I shouldn't enjoy FSX. As I mentioned in another thread, take away FSX, and I'll bag simming. When I see something that's appealing, it's tough to go back. This is my personal observations, and I'm sticking to them! :D L.Adamson
November 1, 200619 yr Mike,Dual install XP and install some real drivers and see what happens. Darn, not too far from Detroit to your neck of the woods. Too bad my school would not like to see me gone for a week!Edit: Maybe Geofa would fly me there!!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
November 1, 200619 yr Any time you want to go flying Jim-just give me a hollar. And a shameless plug-active sky works great in fsx-I am not wild about the default fsx weather downloads but as usual active sky takes care of it..http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Thanks! I think I'll wait until next Spring/Summer when the weather is warmer and the colors return.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
November 1, 200619 yr Yeah-I hate winter flying too...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr I tried that too. Turned water and autogen off completely. All traffic on default. Fluctuated between low 7 to 8 fps to high 13-14 fps. Two captures below are 11 and 13.5 fps with stuttering and some blurries:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/Lent1/ksea3fsx.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/Lent1/ksea5fsx.jpgJust for a change of pace. I indicated that bush flying was different. On my system I can bump up the water full and autogen (default) to dense. Here's a beautiful fall pic by Vancouver. Ok, 6 fps but I was able to land it fairly nicely with some stuttering. I can dream though of more fluid motion. Moving away from the city, traffic, etc. is better of course.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/Len...ancouverfsx.jpg
November 1, 200619 yr That seems strange-you should get better with water and autogen off.How do you have your video card settings set up?http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Mike, Perhaps in the interest of fairness (which I assume you must be as you are an AVSIM Staff Reviewer) maybe you should try FSX running WinXP as 99% of us are. Since you have signed your post as: MikeT AVSIM Staff Reviewer are we to assume this to be a review; albeit not a very balanced one. Perhaps you should place your challenge on the front page of AVSIM if you feel so strongly about it. But if you do then please make sure your comparing apples to apples and then make the challenge. Comparing FSX on Vista to FSX on XP is certainly not apples to apples so make sure your challenge involves a level playing field. With all due repect, Craig (NOT as AVSIM reviewer) Just a loyal member who is your sole reason for existence as an AVSIM reviewer.
November 1, 200619 yr How do you have your video card settings set up?Latest ATI drivers 2xAA 2xAF. Mips at quality. Pretty low settings. Running it 1600x1200 or 1280x1024 has no appreciable difference in frames. Those are taken 1600x1200 32 bit.
November 1, 200619 yr >Yeah-I hate winter flying too...>http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgOf course, where I live,We can fly from the mono-tone grey colors of a winterized SLC to the breathtaking redrock desert views of southern Utah and Arizona, such as Moab, Arches, Dead Horse Point, Monument Valley; have lunch at Lake Powell/Page Arizona & be back home before rush hour! :)L.Adamson
November 1, 200619 yr I have also found certain setting seem to make no difference in performance (the autogen slider for me makes almost none except when off).I have my default card settings turned way up which seems counterintuitive but seems to work.Antialiasing at 4xs (higher can cause stutter in turns on my machine)Anisotropic all the way up 16xImage setting highest qualityIn the sim I have basically everything full right-antialiasing checked and anisotropic. Only things down are autogen which for a good number of flights I leave off, and water which I also leave off, and bloom off. Ai traffic sliders I all set at about 20%. I get 20-30 fps and silky smooth flight for everything except a place like ksea where it will dip into the low teens. I also have my screen set in the highest res my monitor will support (1440x900).http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 1, 200619 yr Rub it in-for me it is blowing snow-45 minute pre heats and sub zero weather. And I learned the hard way last year in the Baron the heat control is very finicky-turn it on and don't have the vent controls just right-circuit breaker trips and no more heat. Only way to reset it is to get up in the nosegear on the ground and reset a circuit breaker. Flew a trip to Alambama with the #$#$ heater tripped-was 30 degrees in the cockpit for the first 1.5 flight hours-couldn't stop-was on a tight schedule.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
