St Tropez to Marseille - pt1

Featured Replies

Much as I don't like to leave my wonderful apartment in Monaco <grin>, I went for a little trip from La Mole (the airport for St Tropez), to St Tropez, around the headland there, and then back along the coast towards the west. The airport itself is pretty, quite rural

Nice car park!

and this is the town of La Mole itself

turn back east and head out to the coast

Now that I've got a couple of buttons set up to increase/decrease the sim speed as required, I quite like the Cub. When I just want to get on to the next POI I can hit boost and then this little beauty really flies (if I can say that in this context)

This is St Tropez below and ahead. Must have been wonderful here in the 1950s and '60s

As you've probably gathered by now, I'm rather fond of a lot of the architecture in this sim. And this is all just part of the 'basic' sim scenery!

Over the harbour next

On the other side of the inlet here is Sainte-Maxime. Not heard of it before but looks mighty fine

Nice little seafront apartment block! (I cheated a bit here, I reset the time back to early morning to get a better light - the rest of the shots here were in late afternoon. But hey, I can do that - it's my world here!)

Back towards St Trop, and then over the headland to the further coast

I might be late but what scenery is this you have installed?  Certainly this is not default.

Hi Dillon, I have a copy of the freeware Toulon/Provence by AzurePoly installed, but I'm not sure precisely what it adds vs default. I did just go back and remove it, out of interest, for a re-fly, and although it seemed to make a difference in some areas, most of what's in these pics is standard as far as I can tell. Not sure if the rolling cache will have affected the re-fly but I would assume it didn't where any files/textures had changed. The initial couple of pix are from Aerosoft's St Tropez airport.

I do have a high end system and all these are at 4k and ultra/maxed settings, so that should also make a difference.

I’ll check on my sim.  That area is down from Nice and Monaco and although better than all other sims out there default in FS2020 is bland in a since block buildings are standard.  You can tell where Bing data was lacking and surprisingly  South France and Monico is very default.  I can’t imagine this less known area down the way would suddenly be detailed.

I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Some of the freeware stuff already out there seems really good, but I'm accustomed to the sort of documentation you get with good payware so I do sometimes wonder exactly what has been added. And that's NOT a complaint about this freeware - I think it's all a splendid and much appreciated effort on the author's part.

As a further aside, I did finally find the Monaco upgrade I thought I was getting when I found the Toulon/Provence package. Impressive but doesn't work for me. Looks really great from a couple of thou up but I like really low and slow and it's really ugly down at that level.
