I7-5820K to I9-10900K Should I ?

Featured Replies

Since this sim totally confuses me i need your advice.

I got an I7 [email protected] with RTX2070.

Most times i get  constant limited by GPU and once i start panning or getting into a new area and make some turns or in the glass cockpits (even GA), i get that short spike stutter from 'limited by main thread'

Since my overall CPU load at these times are only at maximum 25%, Will a I9-10900K or similar will make the main thread limitations to disappear ?

As i see it, the sim currently only uses less than half of what my 5820K capable of. Am i wrong ?

Thanks in advance !

No, I have that CPU now, they're still there. Paired with a 2080ti at 3840x1600.

I have figured out that it is the LOD slider that causes the spikes. Set it at 100, no stutters whatsoever. Move to 200, they appear over dense areas when panning or high speed turn. They are not *massive* and sometimes not noticeable, but they are there. If you use TrackIR, you will notice them more...

Thanks ! do you mean the terrain level of detail or object level of detail ? I got the first at 90 and the later at 10 ! Still get that main thread stutter mostly in the GA glass cockpits. On the the simply gauge GA's its more rare. Even with the new refresh settings set to low.

So even with THAT CPU you getting that main thread stutter ? thats simply wrong...

Set both to 100 and forget. On my old 2600K I got nice results.

Well the fact you are able to set that terrain level of detail to 200 might tell me you do got a CPU benefit.

Definitely not now anyway. Remember what happened to 2080 ti owners this month? Well desktop Ryzen 4000 is coming out in October, supposedly a decent improvement over Ryzen 3000. It will either close the gap with the 10900K or overtake it and likely for a bit less money too.

At least if it was me, I'd wait to see what happens next month.

Hardly a benefit when it doesn’t work. I believe it’s a limitation of the DX11 engine. From the information I have gathered here in these forums and elsewhere
