Does anyone else get the impression that a fair percentage of the default aircraft provided in this sim seem to be there because they represent a potential sales / marketing / "Learn-to-fly" promotional opportunity for the manufacturer?  Maybe this is obvious to everyone and it's just dawning on my primitive mind just now, but all the LSA and most of the trainer aircraft planes are current or new production models - the Pipistrel Virus, Flight Design CTSL, Diamond DV20, Icon A5, JMB VL-3, as well as the DA40's, and the Cub family of XCub, Savage Cub and Shock Ultra all seem to be  cut from the same "promotional-feeling" cloth.

In terms of the "partnered" manufacturers it is quite possible they had a preference for current models over something they are never going to sell IRL. Beechcraft spending time and money modelling a Starship for example makes no sense.

However let us look at it from a Microsoft marketing perspective.  They have produced a VFR sim that is ideal for bush bashing and flying low and slow ogling the scenery. They are marketing it on Xbox to a whole generation of casual gamers who might manage a Cessna but will crash and burn in a 747. It just makes business sense to focus the core planes on VFR singles.

If you add to that what Asabo and Microsoft have said about leaving more complex features for the aftermarket guys as they do not want to kill the market for their partners you can see where all this is going.

As for the Jabiru, Iris are an Australian developer and it is a very very common plane here in Australia and the existing addon is a relatively simple straight forward one, so it makes sense that Iris chose the jabiru for their first MSFS conversion.

Personally I'm a little tired of all the low speed single engine prop aircraft in the sim.

I'll Third that!
