"External" VSYNC not working.

Featured Replies

Hello again,

Sorry for spamming the forum but i just have got some spare time. 😛

I cant get the VSYNC to work via the Nvidia CP. I have deactivated it in the sim but setting it to active in the Nvidia CP has no effect. I tried both, global and application settings.

Thanks for your help. 🙂

Tom

Use RTSS, link is in my signature. Set it to 30, -1, and x/2 for perfect results.

I have it already but haven't found the sweet spot. Since i am normally using 60FPS i assume 60, -1 and what does that x/2 stand for?

You may also set it to 60, or 45, any number really. Try 12 for the original P3D experience. The other settings are defining the method, no idea really but its proven.

Ok, thanks! One more dumb question: Where to set the x/2? Cant find this option... (Have only Screenshot of RTSS since i'm at work)

Make sure to get the latest version, the download section is a bit confusing. Then it's right below the framerate limit.

You can also create a profile so it just affects MSFS, just create a profile and type in "flightsimulator.exe". And make sure VSYNC is off in both Nvidia CP and the sim!

Yeah the screens on the site are apparently from an older version.

As the Colonel says - I am also getting good results, 1080Ti at 1440, RTSS at 30, -1, x/2

Generally holds at 30 fps everywhere and no stutters.  👍

Thanks. And do you know what the x/2 stands for?

Yes Thom, it means screen refresh divided by 2.  So if your screen is 60 Hz refresh by default, it will synchronise to every other frame, therefore giving 30 fps and avoiding stuttering / tearing.  This also worked excellently is FSX.

Ok got it. Since i am happily using 60FPS would it be recommended to use 120Hz/2 or 60Hz without /2?

Edit: I tried 30Hz and FPS capped to 30 before and it gave me horrible stuttering. So i assume i did set something wrong along the way?

Whatever suits you best is the answer.  It can be a bit of trial and error.

Make sure you have VSync OFF in MSFS or it will interfere.

Fisrt, you must find the refresh rate of your monitor (60 Hz is common).  If it is 60Hz and you think you can hold this with your current graphics settings in MSFS, then just use Scanline Sync as 1 to 1 (shows as just 'Scanline Sync' actually).

If you find you cannot hold 60 Hz though, you must go for 30 (x/2) or you will get bad stuttering whatever you do.  The idea is to lock it at 30, rather than the frame rate constantly varying up and down all of the time, which gives the impression of stuttering on the screen.

Also, if you are not confident you have identified the RTSS Flightsimulator.exe in the Application Profile box, just click on 'global' and that will do the trick.

Also, RTSS must be active.  It doesn't work if you set it then close it down.  Set it and minimise it while MSFS is running, or it can't adjust the refresh rate at all.

If this is set up correctly, the 30 fps seems really smooth, you won't need 60 believe me! 👍

Thanks for that! I can hold steady 60FPS since the RTX3080 makes this possible. Only issue i have is some laggy stuttery thing every now and then which i believe is related to VSYNC settings.

Just to confirm: Scanline Sync 1 to 1 means FPS set to 60 and scanline set to 60 too?

Yes, that's it.  👍  If your monitor is 60Hz, and this is set to just 'Scanline Sync' (without the x2 or x/2), then it will just sync to the 60 Hz of the monitor.

You have an excellent chance of 60Hz with the 3080 as you say (you lucky devil! 😄 )

Don't forget 'framerate limit' must also be set to 60 in RTSS also then (the box just above scanline sync).

The -1 setting will try to pre-render one frame to send to the graphics card so it isn't waiting for it (which can also cause stutter), but setting this higher can have an undesirable effect, as the PC tries to generate too many pre-rendered frames, and ends up throwing some away anyway.  -2 might be beneficial on the 3080 at 60 Hz though. Give it a go if you want. 🙂

Be aware that you can alter RTSS on the fly by alt-tab or alt-enter out of MSFS, altering RTSS settings, then alt-tab back in.  So you can experiment with it 'live' as much as you like.  Takes just seconds to alter something and see the effect in MSFS straight away.  👍
