Manual cache part deux

Featured Replies

Ok, so I did a couple more manual cache system tests on the Koh Chang region, VTKC .

The most important thing is to have the rolling cache enable, since if you delete the region you downloaded on the manual cache tool, it will only be removed if you also delete the rolling cache.

I tried to get a screenshot of the low quality, but it's not working all the time, mostly it will revert to offline

You can see a difference in quality between, high does not really looks like the best quality you can get for this region : 58cm/pixel

The clouds on the hills are from Bing Sat zoom level 14 to 19, buildings are the one from the online version and you can also see that the trees are missing.

Finally, the color are different on the online version and the clouds are not present, you can only see that on Bing Sat if you use a zoom level of 13 or lower, which is weird since the ground imagery resolution is better than the high quality cache.

So apart from the missing trees which is a big immersion killer, it seems that the manual cache tool is simply working like the software SAS Planet, downloading Bing Sat ground texture directly, without any AI improvement.

I will send this to Zendesk, but it will be a long time before it's fixed since, the Longitude is still unflyable, the 208 pitch down to -500fpm when AP is engaged and there is still CTD

That's very interesting.

It seems to me that downloading scenery to manual cache is not doing any favors. Online is the way to go.

Online is the way to go I agree, but sadly I can't, my connection is rubbish.

I will keep pushing it, on Asobo-Zendesk, because it was sold as a way to get online quality offline and we are far from it.

So, can you clarify, if you cache an area, you get less quality than if you just let the program download as it goes?  I've got a 500GB old SSD that I use just for manual caching my county and the county over at highest resolution, since I fly over it most of the time.

Also, what happens to cached data when there are major world updates, like the US Update 2?  I have taken to viewing my cache and letting it lock up MSFS2020 for like an hour or more while it says "updating" thinking maybe that is doing come sort of redownloading of updated data????

Too cache in high quality, you have to zoom in to a very small area. I figure by the time you do that to include enough area where you fly normally, that you'll have already downloaded more for the manual cache than if you just went without one and flew normally during that month (not to mention how tedious that would be to accumulate a good area at the high setting).

In the long term (a year or more) it may make a difference, but then you miss out on any scenery updates during that time.
