November 13, 200619 yr I have a lot of planes that I've imported from FS2004. Some of them, like the Junkers, have multiple listings for many different configurations in the aircraft.cfg that refer to the same texture file. How can I put thumbnail pics for these planes? You can only put one thumbnail.jpg in the texture folder. When one is placed it shows up for all of the configurations. Thanks, regards, Bob.
November 13, 200619 yr Hi Bob,I think that cannot be done. Only one thumbnail.jpg in each texture folder. The difference is in the descriptions. After all, the textures of the different configurations are the same, so the thumbnails also looks the same. Nothing wrong with that I think.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
November 13, 200619 yr I have just done this, you must take a picture of each model, lable it " thumbnail.jpg " and locate it in to the correct texture folder. works fine.
November 13, 200619 yr Bob's "problem"is that there is only one texture folder for the different aircraft configurations. His problem is not solved with your answer.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
November 13, 200619 yr You could always make a copy of the texture folder, name it something different, change the cfg file to use that texture for the configuration you want then take a screenshot of it and put the thumbnail in that way. Then it would still use the right texture but have a different thumbnail in the aircraft select screen. Only drawback is more space taken up on harddrive.
November 13, 200619 yr Author Hi Joey. Thanks. I thought about that but it takes up a lot of space. That might be the way I'll go. Best regards, Bob.
November 14, 200619 yr Just add a line like this one to the "fltsim.#" section of the CFG file:ui_thumbnailfile=c:whatever_you_want.jpgYou can point to any JPEG, BMP or PNG you want. You aren't limited by the default "thumbnail.jpg" in the texture folder.
November 14, 200619 yr Ah sweet. I have been wanting to do the folder copy thing for an F-16 package I imported, but was worried about taking up space. This will be much better. Thanks
November 14, 200619 yr Author Hi. Great! You should add that to the useful info stuff. Best regards, Bob.
November 14, 200619 yr Author Hi. I tried your idea. I have a line:ui_thumbnailfile=F:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftJunkers_Ju52_JU-AIR_v61Texture.hoyhoy.jpgin my aircraft.cfg fltsim sectionMy fsx.cfg has a line:SimObjectPaths.6=F:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9AircraftThe thumbnail does not show. I tried it for every Junkers I had with the correct picture for each and none show. Any suggestions? Regards, Bob.
November 14, 200619 yr Hi Bob,Looks like that would be my fault :->. The ui_thumbnailfile is expecting a path relative to where FSX.EXE is and therefore will only work for aircraft within the flight sim install directory, don't know why I did that though, it should have been a relative path from the aircraft.cfg file location (which I did do correctly for a couple of other options still available, so don't give up hope yet :-> ).Anyway, that option probably won't work too well for ya, but, as long as you don't have a thumbnail.jpg file in your texture directory (because that option supercedes this option), you can place a file based on the string contained in the "title=xxx" item in each .x section within the aircraft.cfg.If the aircraft.cfg contains:title=Cessna 182 Paint Job 3then the thumbnail filename would be:Cessna 182 Paint Job 3.jpg (or .bmp)and this file should reside in the same directory as the aircraft.cfg file itself.Sorry about the bug again,Tim Tim http://fsandm.wordpress.com
November 14, 200619 yr Author Hi Tim. Thanks. So do I still have to put a line like:ui_thumbnailfile=Cessna 182 Paint Job 3.jpg (or .bmp)in the FLTSIM Section, or do I need the full path, like:c:Program Files......etc? Regards, Bob.

Bob, create the thumbnail and name it correctly. Put it in the a/c's root folder, where the aircraft.cfg and .air file are located. You do not have to edit the aircraft.cfg file at all. Before I discovered the "thumbnail.jpg" possibility, this is the way I used to create/name thumbnail images. The advantage of this method is that you can have unique thumbnails for every possible model variation and livery, which is what you're wanting... :) Fr. November 14, 200619 yr Author Hi Bill. Thanks for the reply and the help. I went into my Junkers folder and fixed them all up. I too found I did not have to do any editing in the aircraft.cfg. I have all of the thumbnails named exactly as they are in the aircraft, cfg with a .jpg extension and have them in the main Junkers folder. They all show up OK. I have converted a lot of FS2004 A/C over into FSX and the Junkers is the first one that had only one Texture folder with all of the four configurations within it. All the others had seperate Texture folders. I hope this info helps others too. Best regards and THANKS, Bob.
