November 11, 20205 yr Thanks for posting this. He certainly hits the nail on the head with regard to VR headsets. They are an intermediate technology with a lot of drawbacks. In principle his concept might work, but the company is a long way from mass production. At least they've been able to convince a few venture capital companies to sign on. If it does work, it will change how visualization of images is done.
November 11, 20205 yr Interesting. 101 degree FOV seems limited though, that's what I get on a 49' ultrawide. I like the concept of VR without the headset though. At this rate the next versions of FS will be a hologram cockpit that pops up for you to sit in lol... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

From what I can tell, it is similar to the 3D photographs you see online. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

I think it is a promising alternative to head-mounted displays, albeit with a different set of compromises. For me it at least addresses the main thing that breaks current VR, which is exclusion of the real world. I wonder if they are developing a 270 or 360 degree one, or even a dome?! Mark, sorry for the late response....didn't have follow turned on. Regards a bigger format, in the TED talk video, the developer talks about creating a more holodeck like environment. Not sure if by bigger format screens or using more of the smaller screens. My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

I recall in Howard Rheingold's book on VR (about 30 years ago, that would be) someone was working on the idea of room-sized screens with gaze tracking, such that everything except where you were looking was rendered in low resolution. To me, some version of that has got to be the holy grail. MarkH https://www.youtube.com/@AlmostAviation AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D / 64Gb DDR5 / Zotac RTX 5070 Ti / 2560 x 1440 display
