November 15, 20205 yr Thought this mountain looks impressive. I actually drove up there when I was a Marine stationed in Twentynine Palms.
November 15, 20205 yr I think that's San Gorgonio Mountain--that's where Dean Martin's son packed it in while flying an Air National Guard F-4 back in 1987. November 16, 20205 yr A little hard to tell from the screenie at that angle and altitude but San G should be slightly behind that ridgeline and pretty much due south of Big Bear. It has year-round snow at the top but I don't know oif the sim shows it? You can only drive about halfway up and then hike the rest of the way to the top. I did that back in the 80's and there is wreckage of what looked like an old Cessna (140? 170?) along the trail - I just remember it was an aluminum high wing single engine aircraft, not much left of it. Just one of a few aircraft that have encountered the terrain there, unfortunately. Further south across the valley with the 10 freeway, there's Mount San Jacinto with a fantastic tram ride, I hope it gets due attention when Asobo works up the North American release.
