The New "Normal"?

Featured Replies

Just loaded the DEC 3rd update. The camera assignments I spent a couple of hours customizing to my keyboard and joystick have all been wiped! This discovered on a couple short VFR test hops. Might be worth a laugh if it wasn't going to take me a couple more hours to re-do it all. I guess Good News/Bad News is the new normal for MSFS 2020. I wonder what else is to be discovered. It does get tiresome 😞

Didn't happen here. I customized all my camera keys to use the 3DConnexion 3d mouse, and they are all still there after every update. It's really strange you'd lost custom camera settings, considering the update only downloaded new .BGLs with updated Navdata.

I lost cockpit camera assignments for translate left/right, up and down.  Weird.

Maybe a back up of the settings is now required.

Anyone have an idea of what to back up? This can save us the aggravation of having to redo them.

Let's now start a new thread on how to back up our settings.

in steam, all the controller profiles are stored thus:

C:\Steam\userdata\94959374\1250410\remote

Each file is a profile which you created and can be identified by opening it with notepad.

I found that if I deleted one of those profiles in file explorer, then it would be restored on the next bootup of the sim.

Very useful! Thanks for that. I should clarify, it actually took me a couple hours to decipher the rats nest of camera controls and figure out how to bind the few that I do use (primarily cockpit/panel views). I rely on Track IR5 mostly. I don’t think I could ever memorize that encyclopedic array of camera view keys. Once you experience Track IR you can’t imagine using a sim, or any first person game software, without it. Probably one of the most useful Peripheral camera assignments for me is a single joystick toggle (using a hat switch) of a view that switches between an over-the-cowl view and a close-up panel view (I’m vision-challenged). I am constantly using that one.
