December 23, 20205 yr So I just got the Occulus Rift S, pretty cool, experimented some in Google VR and another game, but now I'm trying to do it with FS. I'm probably missing a step, but I open the Oculus app, then I start FS2020, but then when I click the toggle VR button, or a key I assigned for it, nothing seems to happen. Inside the VR I'm sitting in a virtual loft with a fireplace.
December 23, 20205 yr Make sure you opt into the public test channel in the settings menu of oculus. I was getting all manner of trouble until I did that. It wasn't documented anywhere that you needed to do that for oculus. December 23, 20205 yr Author I enabled it and it downloaded some updates, but still no dice. The "Switch to VR" button just doesn't do anything, no error , just nothing happens.
December 23, 20205 yr Download OpenXR from Microsoft Store then bind OpenXR to Oculus runtime in registry change content of the HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1 ActiveRuntime to "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json" I 've got Quest1 and Link and it worked for me. December 23, 20205 yr taken from msfs home site. The following does help with stability and some extra FPS, but still quirky. • Oculus users please opt-in to the Oculus Rift Public Test Channel to enable support:https://support.oculus.com/200468603765391 Before using VR in Flight Simulator with an Oculus headset, the computer needs to know the location of the OpenXR runtime to use. Please follow the steps below to set this location in the registry: 1. Right-click on your Start menu and select Run. 2. Type in “regedit” (without quotations) and hit Enter. This will launch the Registry Editor. 3. Locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1 4. For ActiveRuntime change its value to the one that matches your platform (note: default path is shown below): C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json 5. Close the Registry Editor. You are now ready to enter VR with your Oculus headset. Edited December 23, 20205 yr by dogmanbird
December 23, 20205 yr Author I installed openXR from the store but I don't have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR in the registry
December 23, 20205 yr Does the Rift have a beta channel option in the PC Link App? If so, have you tried toggling it on and off (and on again)? This triggers an update for the PC link app (has for many quest owners). It might install all the necessary components and add the registry entry for you, though you'll still need to check it as mine was wrong. Edited December 23, 20205 yr by dogmanbird
December 24, 20205 yr Author Yess restarting Oculus did the trick. I'm in VR! There's still some tweaking to be done as the movement is jittery and I can't read the cockpit, and something's wrong with the graphics, very blurry runways and ugly buildings. But other than that I got it working
December 24, 20205 yr Oculus implementation is currently messy. My Rift S is pretty smooth in MSFS once you get it going, it’s a decent HMD to use with this sim. Oz Sim Rig: MSI RTX3090 Suprim, an old, partly-melted Intel 9900K @ 5GHz+, Honeycomb Alpha, Thrustmaster TPR Rudder, Warthog HOTAS, Reverb G2, Prosim 737 cockpit.
