December 4, 200619 yr On the top bar of the FSX display if I go to Options>Settings>Controls>Buttons Keys, FSX will not accept reassignment of some joystick events (i.e. Flap incremental extention or retraction, elevator trim up or down). I have found the posted workaround for this relative to some functions by going to My Computer>Documents and Settings>Name>Application Data>Microsoft>FSX>Controls>Standard.XML and editing the text in this file. For example, changing the extension to ".cfg" and making the following edits, the flaps, gear, and elevator trim functions work to my liking: 4FLAPS_DECR5FLAPS_INCR6GEAR_UP7GEAR_DOWN8VIEW_MODE9GEAR_TOGGLE10ELEV_TRIM_DN111ELEV_TRIM_UP1After editing, the extension needs to be edited back from ".cfg" to ".XML".By this means, the two way switches and/or rocker arm switches can be successfully reassigned. However, this does not work for the buttons on my CH Yoke. I have been totally unsuccessful in assigning anything to any of the buttons (red buttons on the yoke.)Editing has no effect. In fact deleting these items in the text has no effect. I have also tried useing FSUIPC (Registered) and it has no effect either. The number 1 button (Left forward) applies brakes by default, number 2 button (right forward) and button 9 (Left top) cycles views, and button 10 (left top) toggles the gear no matter what I try relative to reassignment. I can not change these assignments.Does anyone know how to reassign these button functions? Thanks:RTH
December 4, 200619 yr The only cfg. item I had to edit was for the landing gear ( get it to toggle up and down using switches 5 & 6). All the other assignments especially with the red buttons you describe went without a hitch. One note though, if you are using rudder pedals or another control device, make sure that that your yoke is selected before you start making changes to the config file. The selection changes when you go from axis assignments to keyboard assignments. I've had this happen a couple of times, and wondered why my assignments weren't sticking. Then, scroll down until you find the setting you want to assign to a button, double click on the joystick assignment column, click the button you want to assign, and click ok. Works everytime for me. Thank you. Rick $Silver Donor EAA 1317610 I7-7700K @ 4.5ghz, MSI Z270 Gaming MB, 32gb 3200, Geforce RTX2080 Super O/C, 28" Samsung 4k Monitor, Various SSD, HD, and peripherals
December 4, 200619 yr Moderator I had no problems programming the buttons either with FSUIPC or the FSX control panel. One thing though, if you disconnect the yoke or rudder from the USB and reconnect, FSX will rebuild a DEFAULT .xml file and you will lose your changes. Happened to me a copule of times while I was tweaking and it was really annoying. December 4, 200619 yr Author Thanks loads:You nailed at least part of the problem (ME!)What was happening was I selected Settings>Controls. Then I selected CH Control Manager Device 1 (my yoke). Then I selected Buttons/Keys. I never noticed that it changed my Device back to CH Control Manager Device 2 (Foot Pedals) when I moved to Buttons/Keys. Selected Device 1 again and everything seems to work ok. Now to figure out a way to map this thing to double my functions again (No device.cfg in FSX).Thanks again.RTH
