Installing P3Dv5 aside of PD3v4

Recommended Posts

Hello folks,

I'm on going to buy v5.

I already have v4 on a SSD.

v5 will be installed on that same SSD, but in a different folder of course.

Is there any attention point to avoid messing sceneries, aircrafts, utilities or whatever?

In other words, are there some best practices for v4 and v5 to cohabit peacefully dans seamlessly?

Thanks.

I have them on separate SSDs, but the principle is the same.  They coexist without much trouble at all.

For sceneries that haven't been updated (or don't need to be updated for v5), often you can just create an xml entry using Lorby-SI's P3D Addon Manager and point it at the v4 scenery.

I use PFPX for my flight planner, and I set the FSX path in the PFPX setup to point to P3Dv5 (the xml .pln files use the same format), so I can export flight plans to v5 by using the FSX option since PFPX doesn't have an option to deal with v5 directly.

Thanks Bob for your feedback and for the valuable PFPX tip. I'll use it since I have PFPX too. However for sceneries I'll reinstall since I don't want to learn the XML thing or Lorby addon.

Two more questions:

1) I have FSUIPC 5 and use it 'actively' only for joystick / keys assignments. Do I absolutely need to buy FSUIPC 6? EDIT : ok I found that I have to buy FSUIPC 6

2) I have OrbX Base, LC and Vector. I'll reinstall Base and LC. As i understand I don't need to install Vector since in V5, the coastlines, etc are more precise. Correct?

You don't want to learn the XML thing or Lorby addon???? Why on earth would you not want to learn how to use your flight simulation program?  This stuff is not rocket science and something you can become proficient with in a couple of hours or less.  Eventually, almost all addons are going to use one of the three forms of the add-on xml methods.  They are explained very clearly in the Learning Center.

Vector in V5 is a nice add-on.  I like it.  It adds detail to not only coastlines but also wetlands, rivers and lakes.

Hi Dan,

Time is not infinite and I confess I can be lazy. I let the sceneries install in the folders suggested by the installer. I'll see if I rethink that.

Thanks for you feedback on Vector in V5.

I have V3, V4 and V5 all on different hard drives. No problems at all. The reason I have them all installed is different scenery's. I use Megascenery on V3 along with some old aircraft that don't work on the newer sims. V4 I use all ORBX regions along with everything else. V5 I use ORBX True Earth, so West coast only.

Using P3Dv4.5. Can anyone tell me what advantages I would obtain by using P3Dv5?

At this time essentially an improved performance and in some extent better graphics. That is what the majority of folks who migrated to V5 report.

Now my personal experience is that I did not see significant performance gain and additionally I get blurry VC issue which I could not solve. So I think I'll stay on 4.5 and see how it goes for the future V5 updates.

Depends a bit on your PC configuration... if you have enough RAM and VRAM, V5 gives you smoother performance.  I like the visuals better also, but as you can tell from the previous post, not everyone is equally impressed..

V5 uses DX12 vs DX11 in V4..

I kept V4.5 active for quite a while, but have now uninstalled it.
