(iFly) 737 BBJ2 - Christchurch to Wellington...

Featured Replies

I'm glad to see the (many) lovely 737MAX repaints and posts in MSFS...I wish to, also, note that, like most of us, the "737" was one of the first airliners, known to me, as part of my aviation interest,...my fascination with Aviation, precede, by many years, my interest and participation in this Aviation SIM, as a hobby. I especially recall the two (aviation) magazines that, in lieu of simming, kept my (early) interests up, "Airliner World" and "Airways", and, of course, those two magazines always used to publish (and still do, I'm sure) highly readable articles about "real" airplanes (as opposed to "virtual"), many of those articles being about the duo B737/A320, written by RW pilots and experts..., and for a bit digression, here, I state, I'd later supplemented those two magazines with two others (PC Pilot and Computer Pilot) dealing with "virtual" airplanes...I used to get (old issues) of all these magazines, from the local, thrifty (half-price) book-resellers, at 25 cents each (or so)...and, at a later point, when I took a break from SIM (a long break of 4 years), I donated all these magazines to the same resellers, so, someone else, another enthusiast, maybe, could repeat the cycle of purchase and enjoyment,...🙂...with the same magazines...

The non-pilot (pure) simmers, among us, like I am, would probably recall the very first time, we pushed the throttles of that (stock) B737-400, in FS9, in heart-stopping anticipation, and, thereby getting the (first) unique (virtual) sense of airliner excitement....the wannabe jet-jockeys had arrived...🙂...long before we even got exposed to other complex (and more realistic) 737 Add-ons. The 737 always holds a place in the heart of aviation/sim fans...especially with its outstanding (and rich) history to boot. There was a time, I used to fly PMDG/iFly 737s regularly, so, when I, now, see e.g. FS2Crew signs with 737 images, in the Signature information of some.., it reminds me that the PMDG/iFly 737s were the very first aircraft, I'd equipped with this worthy supplement...my favorite was to request e.g. ("One Coffee" or "Some Lunch" etc...) via the FA (Flight Attendant) button, and, of course, such requests never seemed to materialize with anything,...🙂...and no such refreshments ever actually arrived in my (virtual) cockpit...!

Anyway, the 737MAX posts, here, made me think of the iFly 737NG, that I've not probably flown since about a year ago. Today, I picked up a new BBJ2 repaint (see images below). BBJ(or BBJ1)/BBJ2/BBJ3 are respectively based on B737-(700/800/900) variants. The iFly (SIM) pack, I notice, simulates all the three variants of BBJ. BTW, the equivalent from Airbus is called ACJ (Airbus Corporate jet). The very first ACJ was based on A319, and we do note that A319, (eventhough, numerically designated with a lower number than that of A320), was actually introduced 8 years after A320. Currently, the ACJ is offered in almost all the Airbus variants (including the latest "ACJ Two Twenty", based on A220-100).

When loading the iFly 737, today, I ran into an installation error, such errors, not uncommon, after such a long break, but, a look-up, on the internet, for a remedy, plus a quick reactivation from Flight1, let me do a fresh re-install of the SIM, and got me moving, in less than 15 mins, so, I'm thankful. So, please find, below, a set of images of BBJ2/B737-800, for a dusk arrival, on a short (< 200nm) flight from Christchurch (NZCH) to the capital city of Wellington (NZWN) located just across the Cook Strait (see approach and landing shots). And, btw, as far back as I can recall, iFly 737 has never failed me, in delivering good fun, always providing flawless performance, in terms of its LNAV/VNAV logic etc., as it did today. And, for this post, to keep my proficiency up...🙂...I've done the due diligence of a cold & dark start-up, at NZCH, but, if one is not so inclined, iFly does provide easy options to get rolling without any such prep...

Hope you enjoy this set of pictures of the BBJ.

Happy flying...!!
