I am aware all 3090's vent their prodigious heat into the case instead of out the back door, which is really an unfortunate design, but it is what it is, and if I can pick up one I likely will.  For air-cooled CPUs only, how much did your CPU temps increase post install?

I use water cooling but I will give a guess anyway so I didn't see any increase but I would venture to say a normal case, not one with a million fans like mine, the cpu temp would probable go up only a few degrees. I doubt enough to cause your overclock to become unstable. I do notice my fans on the 3090 are spinning a little more then my 2080 did stock for stock. Both being a triple fan setup. Hopefully a few air cooled folks can chime in. Your 1.21v @ 5ghz is awesome, nice chip there.

I know it has been a good chip for sure and it runs very cool in MSFS and P3D too now that I have it set up properly.  I can run HT enabled at the same voltage but dial back to 4.9Ghz.  I think I will probably be fine as you're thinking, because of two big reasons:  vsync to 30hz, and 3440x1440.  3090 is big overkill for this config but at this point 3080Ti is nowhere in sight, w/ its alledged 12Gb VRAM.  12Gb should be fine for either sim so whatever opportunity presents itself first I will likely go there.  I don't see a 4K screen in my future.

 

I'd say barely noticeable. If you have a decent air cooler, like my D15, then the case fans at the front are directing cool air directly at it. And of course you have a couple of fans on the cooler and in close proximity a rear case fan that vents it directly out.

People over emphasis the fact that heat rises and don't understand that case fans can very easily overcome the tendancy.

 

Yes I have some big ones up top in the Phantex you recommended and the thing runs very cool so I should be fine, if I could only find one ;o(

I'm seeing Insane prices now in the UK Noel. £2500 for the 3090 would you believe. Shocking. I'm glad I got mine when I did. I paid £1400 after the VAT was deducted. That was for the EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3, the most expensive EVGA card. 

It's unfortunate.  I've got the $$ too!  No way I would pay the going rate.  I'm hoping to stumble into one at BestBuy and actuallly hit the Add to Cart button when it was suddenly live, but lost it due to not knowing the trick required to make it appear in the cart.  This happened to me w/ the original release of FE version as well.   Here's what I wonder:  nVidia and AMD as well can clearly see what people are willing to pay for these.  They might as well up their retail prices and get it over with, rather than let 3rd party middle players do this.

That's a pain Noel. I was really lucky, I just kept checking the various places on the net that I usually get stuff from, like Amazon, Scan etc. Then one day the FTW3 appeared so I grabbed it quick. I think Scan must have sent cards out to their pre order people and had a few left. 

Persistence is key.

The Good Lord has been trying to tell me I don't need a 3090.  BB has dropped a few usually on Tues, Thurs and Fridays.  I was poised and ready at key times Tues and Thursday and none were dropped.  Today they dropped 4, but I had to leave before the witching hour.
