December 26, 200619 yr Merry Christmas all...Yes Santa got me FSX for christmas but Im not throwing away FS9 yet. I installed FSX for the first time today and also installed the unregistered version of FSUIPC4 from Pete Dowson with no problems. I activated Activesky 6.5 and all seemed to work well in hand with no problems. (1 was I admit a little worried) However my frame rate of about 20 FPS I noticed was now down to 2-4FPS sitting at the very location I had just been getting 20 FPS at. I shut everything down thinking it might be AS6.5 causing this FPS result however without reloading AS6.5 and just loading FSX I got the same result. It wasnt until I took the newly create modules folder (created by FSUIPC4) out of FSX and restarted FSX that I suddenly was back to 20FPS. I am a registered owner of FSUIPC and I am willing to register FSUIPC4 also but not if this is the performance I can expect from FSX.I use several addon programs in FS9 that use FSUIPC and it would be nice if I could use a few of them with FSX. I would appreciate any guidance from the FS community who have been FSXing it for the past 2 months.Don

December 26, 200619 yr Hi Don,I just went through the same thing. Do you run End It All or FSAutostart to stop any WinXP Services before running FSX? If you do, then be advised that you need more services for FSX than you did for FS9.With FS9 (and FSX before I added FSUIPC4), I stopped every service that would stop. FS9 and the virgin FSX were happy. With FSUIPC4 loaded I not only had lousy frames but everything was slow loading.I use FSAutostart and had to go through the config again and allow many more services to run. Essentially, I've had to reenable TCP/IP and all the networking stuff. It is an ongoing project and I disable a few services at a time and check how it it running. So my advice to you is to try running FSX and FSUIPC4 with all services enabled and see if that fixes your problem. If it does then start disabling them, a few at a time, until you find the sweet spot.R-
December 26, 200619 yr Author At first glance, you would think that a missing required service that was "not running" would cause an error instead of loss of FPS.Or, the application would automatically restart the missing process. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
December 26, 200619 yr I agree with Ron. I can't use auto start because is really slows down FSX. I even had some issues with it in FS9 but not to the extent that I do with FSX. Haven't had any slowdowns by using FSUIPC, however.Jim
December 26, 200619 yr Hi RonThanks for the reply. I use autostart for FS9 but as yet have not used it for FSX. So that cant be the problem. I appreciate the heads up thou on Autostart with FSX. Im beginning to wonder if my McAfee total protection 2007 maybe the cause. I will continue to experiment. If no one else is getting this same symptom then it must be something running on my system. My FSX is a clean install so its not another addon thats causing the problem. I just found it really wierd that all I had to do was add the module folder to the root directory for FSX and not really even using FSUIPC4 for anything because nothing else was loaded and I immediately got the frame rate hit of 90 %...Don
December 26, 200619 yr Author I just download Mcafee new stuff (one year free with Comcast internet install)with their new menu screens.I cannot get FSautostart to shut all the "new" Mcafee process down. But, even so, with their shield routines still running I get 25FPS using FSX, DreamFleetXP baron in 3D coockpit, ActiveSky and Radar Contact. This McAfee stuff is getting hard to control. When I go to Windows Task Manager and manually shut the stuff down, wait 15 seconds and Mcafee starts it back up again!Any body know of a payware or free ware virus protection I can get where I can shut all of it down before running MSFS? I know some of its processes are not taking much CPU time but they are "armed", take up memory and I want (would like to have) them all OFF prior to starting MSFSX!Cannot find a way to e-mail or call in a technical (McAfee) question either. Seems to be settle for their on-line knowledge base (go in circles for hours) or pay mucho $ per minute to talk to a rep.Would be nice if they had one button that says "STOP virus scan and unload it from memory" .... sort of thing.Best Regards, Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
December 26, 200619 yr Hi AgainWell I did it. It disabled all my Mcafee services and fired up FSX with the modules folder installed for FSUIPC4. Again I got FPS hits ranging from 2-5 FPS. I closed FSX and removed the modules folder and restarted FSX and immediately was hitting 20 FPS at the very same starting point. I then fired up Mcafee and launched FSX again without the module folder and got 20 FPS again. At this point I am at a loss to figure out what is going on here. I hope someone comes up with a solution soon because FSUIPC4 is mandatory if you want to use other programs with FSX.Anyone out there got any ideas?Don
December 26, 200619 yr >At first glance, you would think that a missing required>service that was "not running" would cause an error instead of>loss of FPS.Wrong. Missing services can very well cause a FPS loss. FSUIPC4 uses simconnect which in turn is a network based service and NEEDS a working TCP/IP.Plus, some software which hooks into the tcp/ip stack (mainly firewalls like zonealaram or similar) have to potential to affect simconnects functionality. If simconnect doesn't properly work, FSUIPC4 will run into problems.More here from the author himself: http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?t=56456
