March 20, 20215 yr I was flying low and slow over my hometown where I grew up and was amazed with the detail. All the correct buildings in the right place. Then I started thinking that if kind of detail is available out in the suburbs, why don't we see this same detail at all of the airports? Did Asobo have to go out of their way to give us airports without the correct buildings or was there something in the process they used that prevented that from happening? Just curious. LouP

LouP Its all in how that photo scenery was made. Take satellite photos and then use AI to attach streetview type pictures to AI generated buildings. Much easier to send a vehicle driving down the road (which im sure must of us have seen a vehicle that does this driving at some point) in cities and suburbs than it is to gain access to airports. AI is very hit and miss on the airport side even for auto gen type buildings. March 21, 20215 yr Not all Bing maps have 3D photography. The accurate 3D areas are actually most likely hi resolution aerial photography not satellite and that stuff is only available in certain parts of the world. Everywhere else is 2D terrain mapping with game created autogen buildings on top with the occasional custom hand made one placed.
March 21, 20215 yr Photogrammetry can give accurate building depictions and it looks good from the air but looks like garbage up close. For airports you are too close to the buildings for photogrammetry so they either need to hand-model the buildings or use generic ones. Barry Friedman
