H/C Bravo and A320 Neo Spoilers

Featured Replies

I searched around but didn't find anything on this. I am trying to configure my H/C Bravo to operate the spoilers on the A320 Neo (not the FBW version). Binding an Axis to "Spoiler Axis) works in the Boeing jets but it does not work and the Airbus. The Throttles and Flaps work as they should. The video I watched about setting up the five different profiles did not mention the Airbus specifically. What am I missing on this?

I had no trouble getting it to work on the FBW version. I guess I'd ask why you're not using that?  It's vastly superior in every way.

I have never been a fan of the big jets and was trying out the lessons now that I have the Bravo. I will give the FBW version a whirl instead.

Now that I am back to my keyboard and not on my phone, I will explain a little more. I have always just flown simple GA aircraft in previous sims, and the more complex aircraft kind of scared me to try. The Baron is as complex as I ever got before. After MSFS came out I have been mainly flying the TBM and have gotten in to using more functions of the AP and doing ILS approaches, using charts a bit, etc. But the big jets still seemed like they were more involved to fly than I have ability, like my experience with the WT CJ4. It is hard to just jump in that and fly it, and I figured the FBW 320 would be even worse. When the Takeoff and landing Lessons came out I tried it once but it was frustrating with my CH Quad and I decided to just wait on the Bravo before trying it again. The Takeoff one was much easier with it by the way, as I now have a visual as to what the lesson was asking me to do. But that is where I noticed that the Spoiler lever was not working. I now have the FBW installed and will try it out tomorrow. I am also going to see if I can find some pointers on flying the thing. I am not looking for a Cold & Dark type of thing, just some basics. I am going to save the C&D for the TBM, down the road sometime.

I understand. I’ve been there. But the default A320 is so broken, it will be more frustrating than helpful. The FBW plane won’t make it easier, but at least stuff will work 🙂

I’ve found A320 Sim Pilots YouTube channel invaluable. I watched his cold and dark startup, takeoff and landing videos a few times each taking notes so I have my own checklist of things todo at each phase of flight. I can’t recommend his stuff strongly enough.

You will find the A320 plane basically flys itself. You’re really only flying it for the first 500 feet and the last 500 feet. But it’s all in setting it up properly. Which the videos go through in detail. Just stick to runways with ILS landings and you’ll be amazed how easy it is when setup properly and you have the checklist of things to do at the right times.

ps. The Bravo is great but if you’re flying the A320 properly, you’ll never need the speed brakes. You just arm them (can map that to a toggle button) and they deploy automatically on touch down. I have mapped the spoilers to an axis, but never use it. 🙂

We have all had to learn at some point. Remember it's a sim, and just have fun learning. And with you have the Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant you could really have a cool setup to fly it. You will figure it out eventually, if you keep watching videos, asking questions, etc... Sounds to me like you are ready to try another aircraft. BTW, I have my backslash key on the numpad of my keyboard bound to the spoilers and don't think I have used it much. But you can also ARM them too, and I have the asterisk key bound.

If you watch a few 320 Sim Pilot videos you will grab a little info each time. You don't have to understand it all right now. Just take your time.

Go for it, and enjoy! And good luck too. Let us know if you tame the beast at all 🙂
