Man...do I love FSX......

Featured Replies

I have a "ghetto", ancient P2.4, but I'm having a blast with FSX. Albeit this is with air traffic turned off, but about 10-20% on cars, ferries and boats. Autogen off, but ground textures turned up. My local area (SE connecticut) is stunning! They even got a very small detail right that I appreciated very much ... theres a golf course right off the end of rwy 6 at KBDR (sikorsky) that is in the scenery (it's a par3, no less). It's amazing to me how much they included "out of the box" with this sim.Details like that, along with the moving traffic on I-95, make it so immersive for me. Granted, my enjoyment of FSX will be for VFR only IMC flights, but it's a beautiful sim. I might even get TrackIR in the mean time to enjoy my VFR flights. Plus it will be a blast to use in my newly purchased Realair Marchetti FSX version ;-).Having said this, of course your opinions may vary, depending on whether you fly heavies mostly or not. I like heavies too, so like others, for now if I need that, it's FS9. But the good qualities of FSX cannot be denied.

Mark,No Problems.HP Media with dual core E64000. ATI 1600, 400 GB HD, 19" LG flat wide screen, Wi-Fi everything including built in Belkin receiver.Multi DVD/CD that is a screamer at copying. Multi card reader. Its packaged in UK as a m7635.UK. Cost around

Mark,No Problem.Eveything is on except bloom, havn't got round to trying that yet.Anti aliasing I have off, too artificial for me, but not a frame rate issue.Keeping card at tri-linear and frame rates at whatever. No point in throttling machine with a fixed rate.Sliders at around 3/4, mesh at 38, and land draw at 5 miles (I think)To be honest I am having such a blast simming I am not really paying attention to what I have/have not changed. These settings please me no end. I may be easily pleased, but definition is good. Look down takes a fraction of a second to define itself, but then holds it clean.I have not tried to break it yet by pushing until frame rate hits, I shall wait for my free Vista from HP and then see what happens.I looked out some photographs I took from 321 in real lfe approaching southern Scotland on a clear day. I look at real world photo from 30K and look at same scene from sim....hey we are really getting closer and closer! In the real world from 30K we see little but natural geography, coastlines, rivers, lochs etc.Traffic road and sea at 20%, again by choice, just seems reasonable to me.Air traffic at 40-50%, so reasonable queing behind whatever on runways, and slotting into 2 or more landing aircraft. If I forget to change my spyware to no report, and it pops up, it kills FsFx. Even with this 2GB rig, the screen coming back just does not happen, so a real pain! Bringing to forward tries to get screen back but fails. Sound is there, ATC is there, ILS is on approach, just cannot see anything!I will check what my settings are next flight.regards,

So Bloom and AA is off?Is anything else off?I am not sure where bloom is I think I have stared at it so long now I think if I was in the woods a snake would bite me, aka I have looked so long "I cant see the trees for the forest. Is it to much to ask you to post a pic of your settings this way I try placing mine in the same position to achive some pleasing scenery results that you are experincing. If I have asked too much please disregard and I will understand.I appreciate any help. Mark,<>Happy to do so, if I knew how I took and posted a photograph on Avsim.Tell me how to do it, and I will happily post

>I'm loving it too. It looks really great, and I love the>moving traffic at the airports, and when I taxi in or out of>the gate and see cars and trucks on the adjacent highways, it>always amazes me.>>The really odd thing is that it runs fairly well for me on my>old P4 2.6 ghz. I put an extra gb of RAM in for FSX and>upgraded to a 7600GT and I'm running with autogen on normal,>30% AI, 15% highway traffic and 10% boats. I'm mystified why>people with much better computers are having problems. I have>my frames locked at 20 and maintain that most of the time,>except over the big cities or at the big airports.>>Jim>I think it's great also. I love flying the Carendo Cessna 182, the Beech Baron, and the Piper Seneca V. I mostly enjoy single and multiengine GA aircraft, mostly piston driven, not much into airliners although now and then I'll take a 747 from LAX to Honolulu; that's an easy way to log some multiengine and night hours :)). For those that have more powerful computers and still get disappointing performance, you probably have too many processes running in memory. If you have a late-model fast CPU, or one of th newer dual core chips, 2GB ram and 512MB of video, (the "real" miniumum requirements, IMO), it should run GREAT. If it doesn't you need to unload some other stuff from memory. I just have my volume control, PC Cillin and Zone Alarm firewall, that's it. And it has been running great since I got this machine.

I appreciate your time to respond and willingness too help. The bvest I know is to attach pics and or copy and paste the pics of your settings. I have seen where others have posted images (which replace a bunch of words (typing). Due to the fact I am asking such basic setting questions, I hope you can tollerate my lack of certianly in relation to how to post screenshots. I hate to ask that you type out block by block your setting window with the slidder setting and or box that is or is not checked. Which is why I figured a screen shoot would be a simple solution. Its my fualt for not knowing how these steps (screen shoots ) work.Thank you.Mark.System:OS:MS Windows XP Professional, Ver 2002 Service Pack 2 Hardware:Intel Pentium® 4 CPU 2.802.84 GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB running a 21/19.6 Sony Flat Screen Tubed Monitorand a 17/16 NEC/Mitsubishi Tubed MonitorGeForce FX 5200 128MB running a NEC/Mitsubishi 18 Flat Panel
