That’s why I am not doing it like you - I was aware of that method. But I don’t like that ATC doesn’t recognize as IFR flight. I still like having that as well.

You can still file the IFR flightplan after programming the MCDU / import from simBrief. You can do that via ATC. The only drawback is, that ATC won't recognize your CRZ ALT. You have to request the CRZ ALT by yourself after initial given height by ATC.

How do you do that exactly?

Pretty sure it just syncs with the sim flight planner at that point, if you import from Simbrief you then see it plotted on the in game map.

If the flightplan is in the MCDU (either if you programmed it by hand or imported it via simBrief), you can request a clearance via ATC (just choose the according option in ATC window).

I encountered this new bug where all the button animations freeze. Like hitting them does what's intended (the wing light switch doesn't move, but the light actually turns on), and other switches are just completely frozen (gear, spoilers, etc). And I can't unfreeze all the buttons and switches.

What even is MSFS? What a mess.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

There could be several reasons for that. For example another mod or custom livery which conflicts with the A32NX. Flight model turned to legacy instead of modern (MSFS settings).

Thanks for the advice. While none of those seem to be my specific root cause, I did drive by the FBW discord where several others had the same problem. The consensus was it was a MSFS bug recently introduced, with no connection to the FBW aircraft, and that it goes away on its own with enough patience. Which i guess I'll leave here for anyone else who encounters it and can't find more details.
