May 25, 20215 yr Hi Guys, Just trying to get back on the FS ladder again after giving up on FSX some years ago. It suffered blurries and frequent crashes. Was probably the hardware that wasnt up to it. Anyway have just a bought a new rig and thought I'd get back into this with FS2020. I'm reasonably happy the hardware will do it but this beast is more dependant on a good internet connection than FSX and unfortunately that is not a strong point nor is there anything I can do anything about. But, I'll take a punt! So I intend to download from Steam and there are a couple of questions I would like to ask: 1. Will having a poor internet connection (it occasionally goes down for 5 mins or so) cancel the enormous download and require a removal and restart? I mean if that is the case I will undoubtedly be doing multiple attempts until I submit. It's just that I understand the client from Steam is downloaded short and sweet but the main fare is downloaded from an MS server? I know an internet drop out from Steam wont hurt me..it just picks up from where it left off, but an MS server i guess I'll just get kicked out? Thoughts? 2. Reading a couple posts after searching installation I noted that some were having difficulties with bad installs and still others weren't sure if certain World updates shouldn't be waited on before downloading. So my question here just revolves about what you guys know I should or should not do to run the process smoothly. (slack internet aside). Finally, I will install onto D drive (SSD) and realise that some files may end up on C:\ as part of the install. I also realise that my experience may be less than optimal because of the Internet issue but then some days are better than others 🙂. May 25, 20215 yr You should be fine... the odd internet interruption should be recoverable, as long as you have a reasonable download speed. I am working with 7 Mbps and it takes a loooong time for the initial install, as well as every update. Bert
May 25, 20215 yr I have Steam and a mediocre connection and everything works well. Actually, I do the downloading during the night, no monitoring. About the world updates, they come in two parts :one is a mandatory download covering the world features that will be triggered automatically when you fire up the computer, one is optional carrying a specific region eg Japan or France. The latter should be ‘purchased’ (they are free) at MS market place. May 25, 20215 yr Author Thanks Bert and Dominique. Your comments give me some confidence that this might not go as badly as I was expecting!! I have about 6-7 Mbps connection as well. Appreciate your replies 🙂 Terry. No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea. Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower! May 25, 20215 yr I have the Steam version as well and like it. Would think if your internet cuts out every 5 min that may be a problem with the download from within the sim itself but maybe not. At least it will probably take longer. Should be able to know where you left off but from my experience the Microsoft downloader isn't as good at figuring things out as Steam is.
